The MSU team is just insanely dysfunctional. There was a moment during a timeout when Fife appeared to be telling a player to “shut up”, when they were huddled, and then Stephens appeared to tell Fife to “shut up”. The players/ coaches seem completely incapable of communicating anything constructive to one another. Horrible body language all around by everyone. Everyone seems to want to pass blame to others. It’s all very immature. Very little support for eachother. I am very curious to see if this is taken to new unseen heights with their next batch of recruits. LOL. This has the potential to turn into a total nightmare over the course of the next 2 years.
Why do kids sign up for that program?? It’s weird…
If a player storms off, you let him storm off and bench if need be. But you don’t need to to pull him back so you can yell at him in front of the cameras instead of the locker room.
Well, we know now that Livers was hobbled, in addition to Eli being out. Throw in that we had no motivation other than the rivalry while they were desperate for a win, and that it was in EL where they’ve been much better, and it’s not that shocking an outcome.
CONTRARIAN THINKING BABY, I’m trying to take this thing down.
To be honest, I filled the bracket out in 15 minutes without much thinking and it has been a crazy week. I feel like it isn’t that crazy although I’m worried about picking Illinois to lose.
We had also just beaten Sparty three days earlier.
Illinois and OSU had more incentive to get up for their games in Breslin but they lost, too. MSU was tough there. Their home/road splits this year were nuts.
Thanks, I really appreciated this. I can also think of times where I’ve seen players make a bonehead play and the coach wasn’t immediately and demonstratively disapproving and thought “man, that’s poor/passive/lousy coaching.” But that’s my bad, and you’re right that there are (oftentimes) much better ways to handle those moments.
