Villanova, Creighton, Gonzaga, Baylor, Kentucky, Duke, Iowa, Virgina, MSU, Kansas. So, they hit on a few and whiffed on a few. (Michigan at #19 last year didn’t seem quite as ridiculous, given what the team was losing).
LOL at Borzello praising the job Turgeon did with Maryland this year while completely ignoring the fact that he was the reason they weren’t very good to begin with. Color me skeptical that Russell is going to become an efficient guard in a tougher league.
I do think both things are true though. On one hand Turgeon in Year 11 fielded a team with no PGs and no Cs. On the other hand he made the dance despite that bizarre roster composition and beat a smoking hot opponent in the first round.
Turgeon stinks. He stinks at coaching. Good for the Turge that he did the one thing he’s good at and ‘cruited himself some more talent. I still don’t fear the turtle.
A lot of Maryland fans hated the Turgeon extension but they had no choice considering he only has one year left in his contract. He can recruit talent but somehow, they can’t get it all together to their potential. Maryland had just as many NBA draftee as top B1G teams yet they have little to show for it
In a league where people have touted Chris Collins or Steve Pikiell as great coaches at different points in time, I don’t think you can say Turgeon sucks. He’s just graded on a different curve.
I’m not convinced their transfers suddenly make them a top 10 team but they are the fresh news right now. They probably are top 20 team, though.
a great year and a great tournament. so grateful we got March Madness back this year. thanks to everyone on this board for making it so special. and huge thanks to Dylan for making it all happen. best site on the web!
It is going to be interesting what happens next year. Given their lack of recruiting success in this upcoming season and losing more players than they return…they are poised for a back slide. Maybe that changes with Kofi’s decision or new transfers…but if they struggle next season and the window closes on this era…definitely going to linger with this meme.
