I think they’re overthinking the issue, but the loudest argument in favor of the Ben Johnson hire was that Johnson could keep more of the top Minnesota guys home.
What do you mean nothing? Duke has a history that goes beyond K.
What was the bet?
I was actually just thinking, “that’s right – there used to be a time that we rooted for Duke!”
Duke became much less likable when they became the bride instead of the bridesmaid, so to speak.

Not everyone. One of the most memorable parts of Albom’s Fab Five book was his telling of a media question to the Fab Five before the final game against Duke: “Where were you this time last year?” All five responded, in turn: “I was at home, rooting for UNLV.”

Not sure, but has anyone examined how Gonzaga matches up against Michigan defensively?
LOL, OK, that’s a good one. 
Duke was actually a lot like the Red Sox – (most of us) rooted for them until they won one, and then nobody could stand them anymore.
I’m not impressed with the hire either, but every Minnesota pundit I’ve heard (I live in Minnesota) evaluate the positives of the hire has put his connections to recruit the state at the top of the list. Seeing Suggs play so well in Gonzaga, in not-so-destination Spokane, chaps people here.

They might be putting a bit too much stock into one guy. The Twin Cities have some talent, but Minnesota needs to be able to recruit from out-of-state. I don’t get the idea that there’s a Suggs coming out of Minnesota every year.

He was such a hilariously grumpy oldster in his later years. Unbelievable hooper in his day, though. Both UNC and Duke would scout/buy up players from the NYC hoop scene back in the day, and so both were powerhouses.
Hey, I loved those UNLV teams as a kid! I had a VHS recording of that 1990 title game that I must’ve watched 15 times. I was crushed when they lost to Duke in the F4 the following year.

Pistons fan here. would be ecstatic if they got Mobley. Mobley is four to me. Isaiah Stewart, Evan Mobley and Jerami Grant would be a very long, switchable frontline.
I think the same thing, though it’s getting to the point where Minnesota seems to be losing a really good player or two every season (Tschetter, for example) and some guys wind up playing for schools like Wisconsin. Improving there a bit would help. But you have to be able to coach the guys you get, and I’ve seen no evidence that Ben Johnson is ready to do that. Maybe he is, but how can anyone know?
