2021 NBA Playoffs

He is a great person and a hard worker, but it is hard to watch him sometimes. Like the FTs… He used to be a pretty decent FT shooter and at some point his mind exploded after the Toronto collapse 2 years ago and he has struggled ever since. Way too mechanical and thinking too much. And then bailing teams out by taking too many 3s. They goad him into it and he gives in too often. If he just drives to the rim it is almost guaranteed to be a good shot or an opportunity to pass to a wide open opponent.

Trae Young stole my tomatoes and keyed my car

Maybe he’s a Knicks fan?

That was my first thought but I didn’t want to be throwing out an accusation like that without enough evidence

It bothers me that Giannis (and Ben Simmons) gets paid as much money as they do to play basketball and are as bad at shooting (and ball handling, in Giannis’ case) as they are. Insane.

Giannis is a pretty good ball handler considering his height (far easier to steal the ball from it bouncing up higher so big guys gotta get really low) and a good passer. In previous season he was a pretty good FT shooter as well.

His game plays like in his prime Shaq O’Neal albeit from attacking off the dribble instead of just backing up to the rim. He needs to stop launching all the 3s teams give him.

I just mean his only “move” off the bounce is “run straight at the rim.” I know KD is a unicorn, especially in that regard, but the lack of actual moves bothers me. Not as much as his lack of shot, but ugh.

Tough to chain ball-handling moves functionally at the NBA level when you aren’t a serious threat to pull-up for a jumper. The way elite ISO players create space is by oscillating between threatening a jumper and threatening a drive until the defender makes a mistake.

he can drive left, right, cross people over, and euro step. It’s just that both he and the defenders know he is going to the rim. It isn’t like Kyrie Irving that can bob and weave and feint all kinds of moves threatening a jumper that the defense has to respect. He is basically just trying to get them to guess left or right incorrectly and then power through the other direction. He is coming down hill and fast and you can either try to guess correctly and flop into a charge call or he can dunk on you. There are very few individuals that can challenge him at the rim.

Modern bully ball that he dares the defense to stop.

Giannis is a good passer too (as is Simmons.) They can’t shoot (Giannis isn’t awful though) but not unskilled.

The shooting is the biggest thing for me. Blows my mind how in 2021 there are ANY NBA players that can’t shoot decently from 3. When teams can guard you from the FT line while you’re at the top of the arc, something is wrong.

My father is visiting. He’s 78. Pretty set in his ways including a strong Anti-East Coast bias. Great basketball fan since playing at Holland Cristian as they went to States in early 60’s. (Loved Cazzie!)

We were talking a bit about the Playoffs and he surprised me today. He said he was disappointed Brooklyn lost. Why, I asked. He said, Kevin Durant is the most skilled player I’ve ever seen. He is so smooth. It is a joy to watch him.

Good point, Pops! And happy Father’s Day!

Yeah, as much as I’m naturally inclined to root against the super team, Kyrie, KD and Harden are really fun to watch.

To @kherodan32’s point, we’re in a golden age for talent with the older stars still able to perform and the younger stars starting to establish themselves.

Love the trash talking. These teams do not like each other.

Turgeon is such a terrible coach that he had no postseason with this roster

That dude shot it like a full second after landing lol

Enjoy the 76ers losing, that franchise deserves nothing after their tank plan, smart but an embarrassment that does not deserve to be rewarded

IMO, the Sixers would’ve been fine if they let Hinkie complete the Process but instead, they forced him out and Colangelo ruined the whole process.
