2021 NBA Draft Discussion

This board needs more “Franz Wagner is not a first rounder” advocates to really liven up discussion

I think it might be better than the Danilo Gallinari comp…

Killian Hayes at #1 overall made zero sense to me. He is a below average athlete with meh handles and lacked creativity to gain separation. Looking at the current season, the rankings became more egregious considering how well Melo has been playing in the NBA so far. Melo is who many thought his older brother, Lonzo, would be as a PG.

I haven’t seen anything on the court In The last month or so from Hayes that has shown me he shouldn’t have been the #1 pick.

Well according to him, shooting is Franz’s number one trait. So if you follow that logic…then I suppose you somehow find your way back to Gallo.

I’ve always thought Wagner reminds me of Nicolas Batum.

For the life of me I’m not sure why Cockburn is consistently so low. Sure, he’s not going to stretch the floor at all, but that’s true of plenty of NBA starters. He seems to move well for his size…and that size doesn’t grow on trees.

I agree that Cockburn should at least get drafted.
Moody looks like a really high floor pick.
Not sure about Tre Mann.
(Doing my Pistons scouting.)

A guy to compare him to is the center for Utah State. He’s playing right now and I’ve seen him considered a low second round pick as well.

Because he’s not fit for a modern NBA game. Move well for his size is good in college level not in the NBA.

Chaundee Brown got a mention in the Givony/Schmitz article this morning… “helped himself in postseason play.”

I’m skeptical of Chaundee having any chance of getting a shot in the NBA, but it’d be cool if he got a chance.

He’d be working his way in from the fringes, but that’s an NBA athlete with the basic tools at a position where bodies are needed.

He went into a bit more detail on Franz-

" I’ve been in the No. 12 to No. 20 range for the last few months on Wagner, and the NCAA Tournament didn’t really change much for me there. He had some incredible highs and incredible lows. Against Florida State, he was the best player on the court, showcasing his ability to be a disruptive defender both on and off the ball; his ability to pass it and make plays for teammates with high-level reads; and his shooting ability. Then, against UCLA, he played one of the worst games I think I’ve ever seen from a potential lottery pick (1-of-10 from the field, an airball on a potential game-winning 3 and not nearly the defense we’ve come to expect from him). And honestly, this has been the rub with Wagner all year. He’s been great in spurts and has been rough at times. He has moments where he looks like a Robert Covington-like 3-and-D defender who wreaks havoc away from the ball, and then there are other moments where he can’t make a shot and gets scored on a ton when defending on the ball. He’s a difficult player to figure out right now. It really will come down to how his frame develops and how his shooting consistency works. Can he continue to gain strength and weight? And then, can he knock down open 3s consistently? I think I’m a believer in it; otherwise, I wouldn’t have him this high. But I don’t think he’s a no-doubter like some do."

Likley took Dickinson off because he’s staying :raised_hands:t2:

Interesting decision…

Do you see any path for Kofi to improve his stock? Seems like he is what he is and not a fit for the modern NBA. Unless he can develop a 3ball in the off-season …

Did Franz get scored on a ton against UCLA? I thought he was on Jaquez all game, and he didn’t do anything.

But on offense he was pretty miserable.

How many guys test the year before and then stay the next year though?

Oh, I think he absolutely wants to go and probably will go. It is just an interesting situation given the lack of interest in him at the next level potentially.
