2020 Transfer Market

Went to HS in Ohio so the North is nothing new to him. Just based on stats he’s incredibly impressive

This was amazing to me, I knew a lot of these guys didn’t hit big but I thought a few did every year.

Always important to consider admissions with grad transfers. It can be considerably more difficult to get a transfer into graduate school at Michigan from some smaller conferences, especially compared to the Ivy. No idea on the situation here though, he just announced he was transferring today.

Also Christian Keeling and Jahaad Proctor were the two big grad transfers out of the Big South last year…

Admissions point is fair. I have no idea if he could get into Michigan, or if he’s even interested in Michigan (or vice-versa).

Keeling struggled last year in a major conference but Proctor was solid, 107 ORTG on 19 USG. And neither Proctor not Keeling ever came close to matching this past season for Jones while they were in the Big South. Jones had on ORTG of 120 (Keeling and Proctor maxed out at around 112 ) and he had a USG of 31 (Proctor and Keeling were around 27). So Jones was much more efficient on noticably higher USG, and he had an assist rate above 30 while the other two were around 20, so Jones is much more of a true 1. It’s possibly he flops like the others did but I think there’s a good chance he’d come to a major conference team and be a quality starter on a top 25 team.

Yeah, I’m not trying to say that he is destined to struggle because those other guys did. Just pointing out that Keeling and Proctor were considered top grad transfers last year and did struggle.

I suspect there will be a long(er) list for Jones that continues to grow. He’s a native of Cincinnati, FWIW.

Mike Smith had 0 block shots last year.

“Right now I just recent cut it down to Missouri, Xavier, Marquette, Arkansas, Louisville and Iowa State and I still have Bowling Green as an option if I want to go back,” Turner told 247Sports.

Any potential interest here? (pending he is eligible next year).

Flowers looks like he could have some potential. If we’re gonna go after a transfer though, I would hope for it to be a lights out shooter. 36.8% from three last season is solid though.

He scorched Michigan a few years back…

Yeah, no kidding. I was on my honeymoon, following the box score of that game, and every time it refreshed that dude had made another shot!

Funny similar story. My wife and I were married in late August of 1979, and went on our honeymoon to the UK. The evening before we left to come home, shortly after dinner, I suggested that we call her dad, overseas long distance, to wish him a happy birthday. She immediately said “how long after you wish him happy birthday are you going to ask him the score of the Michigan football game (season opener against Northwestern)?” I acted wounded, but we both knew…and since that game was much closer than expected (we pulled out a 17-10 fourth quarter win), the play-by-play he provided for a few minutes from the radio broadcast was quite expensive.

That she has put up with me for 40+ years of marriage, and 6 years of being together prior thereto boggles the mind.

Man, brings back memories. I used to know Rice, Relford, Wade, Tarpley and the general, as they frequented the same joint we used to go. I believe it was on State Street,Thanos lamplight or some pizza place owned by a Greek. Too many years since, my memory is not helping, but I remember they used to hang at a booth towards the end of the joint, with a bottomless pitcher of coca cola on their table almost every night.

Long story short. I graduated in 86, and moved to a different state. Was following whatever bball game happened to be on TV, and I would even sacrifice family functions, as these were my boys. In 1989 I was going nuts with the NCAA tournament, and I was all fired up after the Illinois game. Final comes on April 3. And my wife decides to go on labor 1 hour before the game. Bottom line. I could choose divorce and watch the game, or be supportive and accept the abuse of the labor. After some careful thought, I chose the latter, but I called all my friends to tape the game for me.

So, my first son will have his 31st birthday April 4, and I still have the 10 VHS tapes my friends recorded for me, with a ripped off sweatshirt from tugging due to contractions. I made sure I got all the available championship memorabilia (t-shirs, newspaper cutouts, etc).

The Lamplighter (on Liberty) had great pizza! Saw Rellford and Tarpley in there many times and occasionally across the street @ The Second Chance.

Johnny Orr owned the Lamplighter when he was in Ann Arbor.
