2020 Transfer Market

Sorry I thought the poster I replied too was referencing poking around the whole transfer market not just Anei

No worries! It brings up an interesting question: if Michigan does fill the last roster spot: would you rather take a big, guard or forward?

(The obvious but probably unrealistic answer is to grab Cade Cunningham from Ok st.)

Juwan needs to call up World Wide West to hook him up with Cunningham :joy:

I think the priorities are the same as they were after Smith signed…and they depend highly on what happens with Livers and Brown.

#1 is a playmaking shooting guard…which is hard to find in the transfer market.

#2 is someone who can do some of the things a shooting or combo guard could do. Eastern could defend and handle the ball for example. Maybe someone like that, or someone like Eli or Stu Douglas that can shoot and handle in some situations.

#3 might be a defense first center who is athletic. Could rotate with Davis/Dickinson and let Johns slide into his forward role.

I’m assuming (possibly foolishly) that both Livers and Brown are on the roster and eligible to play.

Under that assumption, I think I lean going after a transfer big. Next in priority is a guard/wing with ball handling ability to breakdown a defender.

Not sure how many viable options are out there. Maybe Efron Reid as a reclass???

Even if both are eligible…which I am not planning on after such a chaotic off season…I think you probably want a 2 as your first priority. Right now we have Smith (up transfer), Eli, Jackson (freshman who didn’t play much this past year), and then playing Wagner or Brown out of position as our only guards.

You are right to worry about the five position, especially on defense, but I would take a functional 2 first.

You guys don’t want Eli Brooks as the 2? I think he proved to be more than competent this past year there. I think Michigan needs a proven PG and/or a more mobile 5 man if anything.

I don’t think the thought would be to replace Eli. It is more to support the 1&2 position with another quality option in the rotation.

I’ll be happy to have Eli average 30+ minutes a game at the 2. I’d prefer he not have to fill in at the 1.

Assuming Livers and Brown are eligible, my preference is for a PG to share minutes or start over Smith. Second choice would be for a big that’s good enough to start or can at least defend at a decently high level. I don’t see anyone else adding much value unless they’re really good.

I’d agree PG is a big need. Fingers crossed they can get in on Nembhard late. Probably not happening though

He is planning to announce Monday so it appears Michigan either never got into the fold or are just too late.

Figures, obviously in hindsight Juwan probably shouldn’t have messed around with Eastern. Oh well but PG is gonna be a real rough spot

I’m way more worried about our bigs than our pg

I think a shot creating Guard would be the top priority. Doesn’t matter if it’s a PG or SG, since Brooks can guard either very effectively. Since those are in short supply, I’d take another big, but that may not be an easy sell to the recruit. Depends on what Howard actually thinks of Davis, who had offseason surgery btw. Or I’d take anyone willing to sit out.

Sit out transfer has appeal for sure. Lots of roster spots to fill after 2021

We’ll find someone, Juwan is very popular among recruits and transfers and you hear it in their quotes. He’ll be able to pull something off.

I am not worried about Brooks playing the 2 and I’m not worried about him playing 10-12 minutes at the 1 either. I also am higher on Mike Smith than some and thus I’m not worried as much about PG as I am SG & C. Here’s what I’d be happy with:

PG = Smith (20-25); Eli (10-15); Zeb (0-5)
SG = Eli (20-25); Wagner (0-10)

There are plenty of minutes to be had at the 2 by someone. Maybe Wagner or Brown could play more there, but I don’t think that’s ideal outside of a few minutes. Maybe Zeb can play a few, but also not ideal. The best backup to the 1 is Eli also, meaning that he can’t just play 30 minutes at the 2.

I’m worried about our centers on defense for sure…but there are 3 guys that can rotate there and do certain things. A d-first guy would be nice, but I’m not sure who is out there that would be better than the three we have this year. Meanwhile, I’m struggling to fill the minutes at the 1 & 2 right now.

Gotta avoid these situations going forward. Wasted time with Todd and got swindled by Christopher.
I liked when Beilein was like time’s up and moved on.

I’m pretty confident that smith is going to work out. It livers and brown both play he’s going to lead a potent offense. His d is gonna be an issue imo but I think his offense is going to outweigh his d. I expect him to ball now that he isn’t the one man show.

I’m very excited about the year if they both play.

You liked it when he told Josh Langford they were full because Tyus Battle committed?

Let’s not pretend JB’s recruiting was perfect. Tim Hardaway had to basically beg for a spot because JB was focusing on Trey Ziegler. X luckily took a visit on his way home from Wisconsin when JB was wasting his time focusing on Cassius Winston. He told Monte Morris spots were gone when Walton committed.

Juwan took some Ls this recruiting cycle. JB took a bunch himself. It’ll be fine.
