2020 Transfer Market

Good point. Not that I have seen. I did read he is filing the waiver.

I think there is reason to believe the NCAA will be unusually lenient with waivers this offseason.

I don’t disagree, but why are we treating Eastern different than McClung in that sense.

I will be very surprised if Eastern isn’t eligible in the fall. I can see why it’s worth talking about what if he’s not, but it’s hard to see McClung getting a waiver while Eastern has to sit.

Duly noted. The text in the screenshot was from this article:

Being from MN and generally hearing a decent amount things through contacts, I was told today Gach wants Kentucky or Kansas. Has a guy following him around that followed Rashad Vaughn around ā€œhelpingā€ him with his decision. G-League is potentially an option as well.

He’s not a great shooter but a great athlete, would fit in really well at Minnesota with the guys they have coming back.

No Michigan connection, but I recall his being talked about.

Don’t see Michigan pursuing but he’s an interesting transfer now on the market

Any idea on Coleman-Lands? Chances? We need a body for fall on this roster.

Why do they need a body? There are often unused scholarships. They need the right player not just a warm body.

I agree with BQ’s notion of holding onto that scholarship to see who else comes available. JCL doesn’t push the ceiling much higher.

I’ve moved towards rooting for Nojel Eastern being available this season. I think he’ll make next year’s team better and you can always get a transfer next summer (esp if the team is winning.)

I think if Eastern gets a waiver, JCL isn’t as dire a need. If Eastern has to sit, Michigan again will be back to having only 3 players who can actually play/handle the ball in the backcourt. I’d take JCL either way because he offers a completely different skillset, but I’m guessing Michigan would be less enticing for him now with Eastern in the fold. Heck, I don’t even know how high up on the list Michigan is in the first place because he isn’t guaranteed a starting spot. Not sure if other schools on his list have a starting position to offer.

Problem with eastern is if he doesn’t get a waiver he won’t suit up at Michigan.

I don’t know about that, what happens when that scholarship goes unused? Just roll with a ridiculously sketchy backcourt situation? It’ll be sketchy regardless and I’m not sure JCL increases the ceiling a ton but he does raise the floor quite a bit.

On the assumption that Eastern gets a waiver, he’s going to play 30+ minutes, as will Brooks. A three-guard rotation of Eastern/Brooks/Smith, right now, with Zeb Jackson hopefully challenging for minutes. I don’t see that as sketchy.

I don’t think Eastern is getting a waiver (on what grounds would one even be granted?). Even if he does (big IF) I hope he’s not a 30 minute a game guy here. It’s still a sketchy guard rotation (though better than without him) it’d be less so with JCL or Brown. Take what you can get to help the team next year, holding out waiting for the perfect fit will likely lead to an unfilled scholarship

You think hes a lock to start over smith? I think they are a good trio with complementing skills but I think smith certainly could start still.

As a side note sounds like Eastern may never actually suit up for the team

What is this based on?
