I wasn’t trying to refer to any of Michigan’s transfers. Just that transfers are always viewed VERY differently by the team that loses the transfer and the team that gains the transfer.
The schools that have reached out to McClung so far are Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas, USC, BYU, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Gonzaga, Utah, Arizona State, Oklahoma State and Georgia, sources tell 247Sports.
Don’t completely understand the intrigue here, mostly because McClung is a guy who you kind of have to build your offense around and I’m not sure he’s good enough to build your offense around. Would you rather McClung or Franz Wagner lead U-M in usage?
Depends on if it means RiffRaff will be sitting front row
I’d much rather have Franz lead the team in usage, but the “create for others” thing is still a legit question mark for Franz and the team in general, IMO. McClung is no great facilitator, but he’d demand defensive attention and ease the burden on Franz/Livers/Brooks types.
Franz’ assist rate: 5.9% turnover rate: 12.7%
McClung’s assist rate: 19.6% turnover rate: 10.2%
I think someone asked what Franz’ numbers looked like in just the last month of the season and if I recall they were better, but I’m not sure how much.
McClung might as well go to Arizona State so they can have the most social media-driven backcourt in ncaa history
Wagner in a heatbeat. I haven’t seen MClung play much but he sounds like slightly taller DDJ who I never saw as being efficient enough to lead Michigan.
Gonzaga, BYU, Arkansas, Arizona St, and UGA talk to every transfer I swear
I think Dejulius could have been a pretty good offensive option the next two years as one of the primary scorers/shooters. He wouldn’t have been a great PG imo as I think he is definitely more of a undersized two but I think DDJ would have done really well if we accepted that as his role and could have contributed well/efficiently in the end.
He is good at creating his own shot/scorer imo and I think he will show that at Cincy.
Right, the crucial part of that is whether he was willing to accept a lesser role. Clearly DDJ wasn’t and I don’t think McClung would either.
Lets not forget that Riff Raff is a regular performer at Necto nightclub in AA every year
If the final scholarship will be filled, it seems like someone new enters the portal every other day.
Of the players currently in it, how would you rank the following in terms of desirability?
Jamal Bieniemy
AJ Walker
Jalen Coleman-Lands (the only grad transfer on this list)
Joe Pridgen
Mac McClung
We know Coleman-Lands is considering Michigan. I haven’t seen anything about Bieniemy, Walker, or Pridgen, other than Arkansas being very interested in Pridgen.
I’m higher on McClung than most here and I did see him play a lot last season, but I don’t think UM is realistically a potential landing place for him.
Pridgen would have three years of eligibility and put up good numbers (albeit on a bad team) as a freshman.
Did McClung really play off the ball mostly? I saw him on ball quite a bit.
Bienemy put out a list a while back that was all local mid majors
He may not be the most talented of the bunch, but I can see how JCL would be a great fit for this year’s team. Obviously the other guys could provide more next year.
James Akinjo was the point guard until he was booted off the team, at which time he was replaced by Terrell Allen. Akinjo averaged 4.4 assists per game, Allen 4.0. McClung was fourth on the team with 2.4 per game.
Just because McClung doesn’t pass often doesn’t mean he played off the ball.
Interesting because he’s from Minnesota and apparently is interested there, plus I would imagine getting a waiver in that case would be easier and allow him to play right away.
It fits with the NBA feedback that they want him to become more of a facilitator though.
Yes. He’s not a facilitator but he’s a ball dominant player. I don’t really understand the fascination with him.
