That’s fair. Those numbers make me more confident in Smith honestly. I like his tape quite a bit, just the classic up-transfer fears still get me
I’m skeptical about how many will actually transfer this year. By the time the rule is in place it will be June or so and school hypothetically starts in just a couple more months. Which leads to my next point, not sure how many guys will want to transfer with the current covid climate. That’s a big change to make when it’s not even a guarantee that school or sports happens in the fall.
In future years, the transfer portal will be a free for all, but maybe not this year
I don’t think immediate eligibility transfers will cause things to be that much different once everyone adjusts. There might be more transfers to start out since everyone will have the option, but the rule is that it’s only allowed once, so guys wont be Free agents every year. There will also be fewer grad transfers since transfers won’t have to red shirt, and red shirting in general will happen less and less.
I’ve been wondering if we’ll see transfers to schools that are more optimistic about re-opening in the fall. Maybe even in the summer. The nation’s universities won’t all open back up at the same time.
How that works out for the basketball season is hard to predict, but I’d rather be on a team that will be on campus. I have no doubt it will be part of the recruiting pitch to everyone in the portal.
Will be interesting to see what U-M ends up trying to do with the roster… seems like the May 20th vote will be huge as far as adding to the roster. Not a lot else out there.
We the exception of La Tech. Most of those schools are in the same region.
Weird list for a player of his caliber
McClung just pops out on the court. He’s dynamic and he’s has a sense of the moment and he attacks. Maybe that’s just a reflection of six years of going to a G’town game or two each year to suffer through their awful offense and then suddenly they have a guy that is actually interesting to watch, so I’m overvaluing him. I looked and was certainly surprised to see his efficiency is very low.
That is a very odd list. Only one high major and two teams (UTEP, UT-Arlington) that are total garbage.
All pretty local, though.
If the vote for one-time transfers is a yes, I’d be optimistic on Juwan finding a guard.
Dickinson-Davis-Johns
Livers-Johns
Wagner-Livers
Brooks-Bajema/Jackson
LeadGuard-Smith
I know Christoper turned this down but it really is a nice setup for a guard looking to get NBA attention who has played well in 1-3 college seasons but felt underrecruited. Lots of shooting around and media attention for a guard who can drive or score in mid-range. And next year Brooks and Smith graduate so it’s Bajema, Jackson and that guard playing 80 minutes unless a freshman beats one out, so if it’s a 2 year eligibilty left guy that’s a lot to like playing time-wise.
Eli is maybe 6’0". I looked down on him and I’m 6’2".
It was an attractive situation for a 2020 guard recruit too. For some reason Michigan has had a tough time landing high end SG recruits despite a huge opportunity available for the past couple years.
Haven’t followed this thread too closely, so this may have been said, or responded to already.
Mac’s value is in his potential, not just in physical or skill growth, but moreso in his potential to learn how to play efficient basketball offensively and defensively, under a better staff.
If you told me his percentages next year are going to be similar his sophomore year, there’s no way I’m taking him - he’s almost guaranteed to hurt the team. However, he wasn’t shooting 39% and averaging 8 points. He averaged 16 while shooting a high volume of difficult threes and twos, so there’s no doubt in my mind that he can be more efficient, especially when you see his free throw percentages. On our team, he and Smith would have the ball a lot, but their drastically different attributes allow for a change of pace at the ball-dominant guard position.
The main thing is that I’m not sure a young guy with his talent would be okay with trying to “play efficiently.” I feel like he’d probably want to play the same way, and hope that his efficiency catches up to his highlight real playing style.
4/5 of those are mid-majors on the Bieniemy list. Maybe he just wants to star at a relatively close to home school.
Your last paragraph kind of encapsulates how I feel about who he is. He hasn’t provided any reason to think he can play any other way
I look down on you, and I’m 5-10, but that’s because you don’t hate adidas enough.
#TeamPuma sir!
Yes and me too – Clydes only – but the basketball team hasn’t been dressed in clown suits since 2015 and you have yet to issue a formal apology even though I have formally apologized to you for once liking Dakich. It’s time, JD. I’m waiting.
The new transfer rule has been tabled until January. Good thing we’ll have a ton of scholarships open next year!
