I don’t see why he would’ve deterred Smith. But do you think Chaundee still would’ve come? I’m a little more skeptical of that but of course don’t feel all that confident.
Yeah I mean impossible to know for sure. But Chaundee was prepared to sit out a year anyway, leads me to think we could have gotten him anyway. Question is if we would have wanted him I guess.
True, and he does seem happy just being in an overall good basketball situation.
Todd wound up going 4-12 (2-5 from 3) and had 12 points and 7 boards. Not too bad for his 2nd game, going against pros.
The broadcaster also quoted Coach Brian Shaw as saying that Todd has been his most consistent player in practice.
Who knows what he would’ve done here? He surely would’ve gotten good coaching. Beyond that, I really don’t know how things would’ve shaken out.
The confusing part is that he’s not a bad player, just a kind of pointless one. Bit of a jack of all trades, master of none situation except that his skills don’t really fit together and don’t give him a clear role. He’s not terrible at anything, I just can’t see why an NBA team would take a shot on him, much less give him any playing time.
I still see a little Rashard Lewis in him. He’s got a lot of work ahead of him, though.
Nix looks straight up fat.
“Todd got some shots up” is a phenomenally subtle roast.
Got a Raymond Felton vibe from him when I turned on the game the other day. Not a compliment.
I thought pretty much the same thing. Maybe not “fat” but not in great shape either.
People are bagging on the kid, but he’s probably getting good training. And I saw one scout say that big men that can shoot on the move are a rare commodity.
I think he would have been a productive but inefficient player for us. I also think he would be splitting time with Brandon Johns, and Isaiah Livers would be playing in the G league right now.
I am cool with the way things worked out
*Edit - I forgot there are 2 “Isaiah”s in the above equation. I think if Todd came here, Livers would have stayed in the draft. He probably would have been undrafted, but latched on to a G league squad pretty quickly. Just my instinct on how it would have played out.
We’ll probably never know the answer, but I’d bet my house Todd never came up while livers was deciding.
I agree, Todd de-commited in April, so it definitely didn’t factor into Livers’ decision making process.
My whole post above is a total “what if”, and in retrospect I think livers was probably not going to get enough positive feedback to stay in the draft, Todd or not. So - disregard.
Under any scenario, positive, negative feedback, decommit in April, August or not at all, livers didn’t or doesn’t give even 1 F about isaiah Todd. It’s almost insulting to him to think he would. Unless I’m totally misreading your post.
It looks like Todd had a nice game against Nik and the Toronto G-League team. 14 points on 5-8 shooting, 6 boards, a steal, and a block.
Nik went for 23 points(but only 1-9 from 3), BTW.
Todd is looking pretty legit. Ignite might have been the right move for him, I can’t lie. I personally see a first round player when I watch him now. A good one too.
agree, G~league has high quality coaches.
Yeah, he’s looked fine - he’s not one of the two best prospects on the roster, but he doesn’t look out of place. I know there is a thirst to see him fail, and I think he probably won’t be a lotto pick, but if he plays like he has played the last couple, I see a first round pick.
I think if anything it should be abundantly clear why he chose not to come - our most consistent returning players were both forwards, and I’m nearly positive he had no desire to play 5 (and hindsight being 20/20, he wouldn’t be getting minutes over Dickinson). This isn’t to slight him, but our most consistent returning player (Livers) plays his position and our second best returning player (Wagner) plays his secondary. I’m not saying Michigan is better than G League Ignite, but there was almost a certainty he would have less opportunity than a team whose entire mission is to get him at least 25 minutes a night.
