People say it all the time. Less so here, but it happens.
Definitely. People say it everywhere. I know Dickie V was screaming it during a game I was watching during the last week, I think it was the Kentucky/Tennessee game.
To be fair, Kentucky has two top 10 recruits who havenât even looked like first-rounders (partially because of injuries) so I think thatâs a bit of a different situation.
Horrible play but kinda crazy how how he almost made it work
Box score here: https://gleague.nba.com/games/20210210/SCWGLI/
Todd scored 2 points on 1/4 shooting in 17 minutes with 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 turnover, and 0 steals or blocks.
Some of those posters arenât fully developed. Need to work more on those skills before theyâre going to truly flourish.
About 10 seconds on the shot clock, teammate beating their man for a wide open back door cutâŚshould I:
A. Pass the ball to the cutter for an easy 2
B. Dip up and under, throw the ball off the backboard, then go get it AND finish through another big guy
Tough call.
Sam Vecine said he does not have Todd in the âtop 80â and that âteams remain unenthused⌠not draftable right nowâ
Yeah Todd hasnât really been on any draft boards since even when he was committed to Michigan. If he was at all interested in college, going for a couple years may have done him good. But if he was just gonna one and done then GLeague is the smarter move (for both sides, as Dylan alludes to in his GIF below )
Love the GIF selection. Any idea why heâs off draft boards, seem like while very raw he has unique athletic traits that NBA might covet?
Heâs just not really that good. He was a top 5 guy as a sophomore but has been going down since. He shoots a lot/plays primarily on the perimeter, but isnât a good shooter. He doesnât functionally use his length in any meaningful way. He really has no feel whatsoever on offense or defense.
I think also his body type, strength, and lateral speed put him in an awkward tweener spot. Heâs got long arms, but it doesnât really make up for the fact that heâs not fast enough side-to-side to really guard NBA wings on the perimeter. And heâs nowhere near strong enough to defend on the inside. Add all that to his weird/inconsistent offensive game and you end up with someone who teams donât see as having the elite athleticism to be drafted on that alone and also no concrete skills that would make him playable in the near future. Pretty rough turnaround for someone a lot of people talked about as the best player in the class 2-3 years ago.
Todd is clearly not ready for the league but it is the lack of development in the last 2-3 years that will turn off most NBA teams. I am not even sure that he wouldâve necessarily fair better in college than in the G-league.
IMO Todd has gotten the wrong type of coaching for some time now. I cringed every time I saw him post videos of his trainers getting him to work on step-backs, turnaround fade-aways, midrange pull-ups, crazy combo dribbles etc⌠None of that will get him drafted, and from Dylanâs video above it seems like heâs still trying to go to those options.
Thereâs so much for him to work on until he can become a positive impact player at any level, but it seemed like his coaches treated him as if he was a star already, and Iâm not sure if he knows any better given his confidence in his game.
Jeezus these GLeague games are hard to watch. Cool to see Z out there tho, battling Jarrett jack
Jeez Todd looks really bad. Him decommitting was a blessing in disguise. Wouldnât have Smith or Chaundee otherwise
He doesnât play their positions and we have an open scholarship.
