2020 - F - Isaiah Todd (Commit)

There’s talk sure but to go past that is a big step. Gonna make a lot of different dominoes fall if that happens. I hope that it does.

Whatever they do, they need to do it fast. There are a lot of kids who aren’t as high profile as Todd who are in limbo right now.

NCAA might, but Michigan admissions might not

I’ve said nothing about how this will play out.

Nswan has a good point but we usually hear about academic problems earlier in the recruiting process. You would think Juwan and the staff would have known about them also.

It’s possible we did…and brought in dickensons friend as contingency

Yeah you gotta think Howard knew (he has access to his transcripts after all) and figured it was worth the risk. Hard for me to disagree as long as you have a contingency plan. Terrence Williams, plus a stacked roster at the 4 next year, qualify to me.

Well if he can’t get in you could say maybe that’s why Greg Brown was offered too. I guess we shall know April 24.

If that happened and they pivoted to Brown Juwan deserves a bonus. That would be elite level planning and recruiting ability.

Typically I could see this, but I don’t think um wants the media attention that would come from denying a kid entry because he couldn’t take the sat due to covid 19.

I think Juwan needs to make his case to the school. Might be his toughest selling job so far.

It’s not really a school decision though.

It will be if the NCAA creates a waiver. Which they probably will. Todd needs to know that if any other school can take him, Michigan will too.

Can the NCAA dictate admittance guidelines to high school students applying to a college? Todd isn’t an NCAA athlete at the moment.

No, and some schools have standards well below the NCAA minimums.

The NCAA can say which students are eligible to compete though.

I see what you’re getting at now, and I agree.

Admission is entirely a school decision. And there are many facets to being admissible. Think people are conflating eligible with admittable.

Depends on what is holding up eligibility. In general – and I know nothing about the specifics of Isaiah Todd’s academic transcript – but in general if a student-athlete is short core credit hours, yes, there could be a chance to take summer school to firm up the hours needed. If it requires a standardized State exam to certify the credit hours, well, then it becomes more questionable, based on when/if the State in question would administer the exam again. This sometimes presents as a bigger issue when students transfer from one school to another during their HS career.

Or if it is a broad bases standardized test, similar question about when the exam will be administered again. For example, looking at the Word of God Academy academic calendar, April 4 was scheduled as an ACT Testing day. And May 2 was scheduled to be an SAT Testing day. Plus there was another standardized testing service in the school from April 28-30. If a student-athlete’s NCAA playing eligibility was tied into an improvement in one of those standardized tests, then unlikely another session will open up before fall classes start at most Universities.

Perhaps the NCAA and member universities will take leniency on cases around the fringe this year?

Or perhaps some students will go to prep school for the fall semester, finish up the credit hours necessary (or re-take the standardized testing necessary) and graduate in November/December, enroll in college in January?
