2020 - F - Isaiah Todd (Commit)

He may be.

In high school Chris Webber was a powerful man child as athletic as anybody I have ever seen. Not sure what type of competition that Todd is playing against but back in the day Webber was playing in a time when Detroit metro area was full of top National talent.

Donā€™t forget Cronin.

Or Josh Moore.

Amadou Ba was a high flyer

No idea what this means. Did he change his profile pic?

He posts lots of cryptic tweets I wouldnā€™t take it for anything

Surely heā€™s referring to Michigan Stateā€™s time as a top 5 team. I totally agree, Mr. Todd. Itā€™s up.

ā€œToo dominateā€ā€¦

Great vid though.

The first hour and half of this is a full game replay of Isaiahā€™s team (Word of God) vs Jaemyn Brakefieldā€™s team (Huntington Prep). Itā€™s for anyone interested in seeing how Todd looks outside of just highlights.

As a summary from I saw from Todd from a ONE GAME sample size (Iā€™m going to be harsh here so bear with me):

Some very, very sloppy play (although by everyone on the court). His game starts off with a bad pass, and then running mid-range off balance floater that goes straight off the glass I believe. He has flashy handles but also has a very loose handle. The one time he used his left hand, he lost the ball. Many other times, he lost the ball trying to gain half court or while in the half court. He also tried a few pull-up threes that came nowhere close to hitting. If heā€™s going to play like with his style (point forward, no conscience while attacking) at the next level he is going to be an atrocious player. Defensively and rebounding the ball he looks a little soft although Iā€™m not sure if thatā€™s an effort thing.

With that being said, thereā€™s so much promise in certain areas. He is clearly really good to borderline elite shooter (although he needs to put some touch on his shots, he generally misses long or way long). If Juwan puts him in a position where he can hit threes off of screens, whether as the pop man like Teske, or as a corner guy like Livers, I think he could really excel and eventually hit at an extremely efficient rate. In this game heā€™s hitting turnaround fadeaways with ease, and while thatā€™s not a shot heā€™ll be allowed to take at the next level, the fact that he CAN hit them shows that heā€™s a good shooter.

Also, if he simplifies his dribbling and allows the game to come to him, he could be a lethal player with his athleticism attacking the hoop. Basically, Iā€™d rather see the offense around other players, and give Todd the opportunity to shine mostly as an off ball player. A great example of what he could model himself after is Isaiah Livers right now. Heā€™s our leading scorer but he really doesnā€™t have the ball too often in game and doesnā€™t try to force shots. I donā€™t doubt that thereā€™s going to be head-scratching plays here and there where he puts up wild shots trying to do too much, but hopefully he limits those.

I doubt heā€™ll be a superstar at the next level, but offensively, he can be elite at what he does if coached properly. I know that for such as highly rated recruit it might be disappointing not to see him being featured, but I personally truly believe that itā€™s the wrong way to go with Todd. You can argue that heā€™s only in high school and all of this can be fixed, but just seeing him struggle mightily in certain areas in high school probably indicates that they arenā€™t going to become strengths in college within a year.

the second play was just absurd

Effortless is the perfect way to describe that. Looks like heā€™s just messing around in warmups.

Dude is a freak with what heā€™s as to do at that size. I really hope he plays in Ann Arbor next year
