How many more OOCs are we looking to add at this point? Does the team know its conference schedule yet?
Still no Big Ten schedule. Probably comes out this week.
Teams can play 5 non conference games without an MTE or 7 with an MTE.
are we doing an MTE?
Nobody knows yet!
Not sure where to put this, but where do you guys see this Michigan team finishing on Kenpom? Theyāre at 17 preseason.
Iām personally going to predict that itāll be lower than that. Maybe 25-30. Iām not super optimistic about the point guard spot. Iām not sure who is going to be creating shots except for Franz, who hasnāt shown an ability to do so for anyone but himself, and Smith who, as a mid major transfer, is mostly unknown at the Big Ten level. Iām less concerned about the center spot given that it seems like theyāre indeed working Johns in there, but the defense there still scares me. A lot. I really think next year is where we see a team that truly competes at the top of the conference and potentially the country. Still, Iād love for the somewhat meh outlook I have for this year to be totally wrong.
(Given that thereās no schedule, I figure this is a more interesting preseason prediction topic than record).
Iām gonna need this schedule to be released ASAP so I can start looking forward to something other than football
The idea of ādoing the best they canā is what has gotten college football down that slippery slope. Look at how many games this month that has been cancelled or postponed. His idea might not be popular but there is a lot of realism behind a statement like that. Remember heās living it right now with his team so what he actually says should be taken to heart.
Yep, there are going to be a lot of cancellations. Teams are going to get shut down. But starting earlier will give time to make stuff up. I think we have to just embrace that it is going to be a different sort of year.
I donāt completely understand the delay thing, just because if some teams can get games in now then they should do it. Thereās no promise things will look better on Feb. 1
Yes there will be a buffer but that doesnāt make things better. BYU football had to scramble to make a schedule in the process they are only playing 2 games from Nov 7th to Dec 12th. I donāt see how this works out to the advantage of anyone. There will be teams that only play 1-2 non conference games and some that will play the full 5 or 6. A delay would most likely just help in case there is a vaccine during that delay.
How are we going to judge teams in the conference if they end up playing 3-4 more conference games than another team?? Playing 20 conference games isnāt conducive to making games up.either.
I am still surprised that Michigan scheduled a game with Oakland whoās still on shutdown for at least a few more days.
Absolutely. There will be teams that play 17 or 18 games and make the NCAA Tournament and teams that play 27. Thatās just the way it is going to go this year and that will be on the committee to figure out.
The good thing is that conferences get to decide how to determine their autobid, so that will figure out a lot of the equation.
Mid-majors are probably pretty screwed as far as at larges in my opinion just because I think the committee will lean toward high majors with odd resumes and the mids wonāt be able to get enough games to prove otherwise.
Eye test?
Once you get into conference play, I think the Big Ten can be flexible. Say that IU is shut down, maybe the two teams that were supposed to play IU play each other, etc. Maybe you pick up an extra game against Michigan the week you travel to East Lansing? Who knows.
BYU had to scramble because they are an independent, one of a handful of schools in a far different position than other schools. Notre Dame joined the ACC for this season just because independents were going to have a difficult time. And BYU has already played 8 games. Every conference that started late is playing only conference games. BYU is only getting to play a season because some conferences started on time.
Bring back that Justin Turner film for opening night.
So this finalized the schedule? Ball st game day tbd, but no MTE? Or is it possible some of these games will be called and MTE and we go above 25 games?
Also no non-conference road games
Less than 10 days until basketball!
Add Ball State on December 2nd and you have the non-conference schedule.
Hopefully pad the wins column with a 5-0 start
Winning the NC state game becomes pretty important since itās our only chance of anything OOC. Go 5-0 in those and root like heck for the B1G teams that are playing decent teams OOC and weāre more than OK.
Kenpom lines are all well over double digits except NC state with Michigan as 5.5 pt favorites. Similarly Torvik thinks everything is a >99% win chance except NC State at 75%. Notably, Kenpom has UCF as a better team than Torvik (and Michigan slightly worse), probably gives UCF a ~3% chance to win that game instead of 0.6%.
Definitely would be disappointing to go anything less than undefeated especially with what the committee will think is important this year a little unclear.
I donāt know if this has been mentioned, but I assume there are still plans for a full conference tournament?
