2020-21 Roster Speculation

Yep, same thing that’s been reported all along is that U-M is working to finalize things before submitting the waiver.

I know there was another report that said otherwise but this reiterates that it was incorrect.

Yea I really don’t get that at all. Doesn’t leave much time for an appeal if one is needed.

Agreed but I’m hoping it’s a mistake and he stated it incorrectly . If not it’s really strange The guy raises both the floor and the ceiling and would/will likely start this year.

He stated it twice, including when he was asked a second time.

Makes me think there’s something happening that we’re just not privy to? Because, yes, it’s an odd situation.

Well then that just seems kind of odd, I wonder what the hold up is. Hopefully the NCAA can move on it really quickly, though i kind of doubt it.

If Juwan/Chaundee were waiting for Cal/Sarr to go first, that makes sense. Or even just if Kentucky is waiting this long, I feel more comfortable that Michigan waited this long

Where is this interview? Or is this media availability going on right now?

Availability right now… Should have video later.

Seems like the proper projection for October 13th before practices actually start.

Seems like what many of us expected for a while to start the season. Figure Hunter breaks into the role later in the year depending on how he and Davis are doing.

I still think Hunter could start the first game. Have a month and a half until then for Hunter to pass Austin

Austin may start game 1, he may start the entire season, but if he is ever a more impactful basketball player on the court than Hunter Dickinson I will be very surprised.

It does speak highly to how Smith has played though. I’ve heard he wins most of the shooting competitions.

I recall some discussion about the timing of Austin’s return after shoulder surgery. Is he completely back?

It would not surprise me at all if Davis holds him off. We’re talking a fifth year senior versus an 18 year old.

Davis showed he can be very effective on offense last year. Considering I’m not expecting a ton on d from either it will most likely be who’s more effective offensively.

I would not be shocked if that was Davis for a large part of the year as much as I like hunter. Hunters passing is a huge plus though and the kid also plays winning ball. Good problem to have.

I could see 10-20 minutes for either each game depending on who’s playing better with Johns filling in the rest. Although I’m hoping Johns plays small ball 5 a bit more than that.

I agree - and it is somewhat moot. Coaches love experienced players who don’t make mistakes and know the system. Additionally, while Davis/Smith isn’t ideal for defense it may be a better pairing on offense since Davis can set screens and roll to the hoop. Then you could bring in Dickinson when Eli (or Zeb?) is at the point and run more offense through the post.

I am still a big believer that Smith is your starter at PG all season - even if Brown gets his waiver.

If Brown and Johns are coming off the bench it will make this team pretty deep. I expect the team to evolve over the season to get the chemistry down.
