2019 Transfer Market

Duncan Robinson is a trendsetter

Not trying to imply he’s a Michigan target at all. Just find it interesting to see HMs offering D3 transfers when it was pretty crazy at the time for Michigan to do the same thing.

Duncan was listed at 6-7, 185 at Williams, not all that different. The gap between D3 and D1 S&C is significant.

I can’t speak for all D3s, but in my experience it’s unlikely they had a dedicated strength coach. Probably just one that helps every team they have at best, and that person would be making Pennies for the hours they’re working.

Many D3s have strength coaches now but they either coach another sport or work with ALL teams. At the D3 level, it’s about getting in the weight room when you can. Another part that is very different is the lack of nutrition coaching. Guys can put on weight but not always in the best way because no one is teaching them.

A bizarre saga ends exactly the way it seemed like it would from the start.

Would have loved to have Tillman as I really liked him out of HS, but glad he will get to be near his family and he won’t have to sit out a year.

Yeah, the Rutgers-Illinois swing of his recruitment is the part that I don’t understand. Never became a target for Michigan.

And you probably thought the transfer portal had closed. Marrow was basically Diet Chris Clemons last season. 37% from three on 238 attempts and 81% from the stripe on 269 attempts. Just interesting to note considering he was one of the more overlooked high-performing players in college last season by way of being in the Big South while Clemons was.

Also, while it says he is sit-one, play-one, I do wonder about his eligibility. You would figure he has taken summer classes and could theoretically be eligible for someone right away. With Michigan classes starting in exactly a week, though, and plenty other schools already starting, this is interesting timing for a transfer announcement which is why I wonder if he could be eligible immediately with some maneuvering.

If he had graduated in three years, wouldn’t he’d tell ESPN that?

As far as Michigan goes, I’d bet against admissions approving him in time for fall classes. They make it hard enough for transfers to get through with a normal time frame.

You’d think, but I don’t know how much recruits themselves tell outlets and how much is those outlets inferring things.

And I would agree with you on Michigan. With the difficulty of general transfers, a transfer a week before fall class seems unlikely.

Looks like Rayjon Tucker just got a multi-year NBA deal. I recognized the name at first when I saw the news from Woj, then realized, Tucker was the transfer we all really hoped Michigan would land. Good for him! He was clearly as good as we expected, obviously even better

On a contending team no less (Utah for those who haven’t seen the news). Had been reading about the recent G-League showcase on ESPN and Tucker getting signed had been predicted. Bet on himself and it paid off.

News is that Kahlil Whitney has left Kentucky, could he be a possible target especially on the back of the success that Charles had at Michigan after leaving Kentucky? Looks like an elite athlete.

If Beilein was still the coach, perhaps Matthews’s experiences going from 5* to Kentucky to Michigan would provide an interesting comparison for Whitney. But with a new coaching staff, new system … I just don’t see how the experience Matthews had at Michigan provides any blueprint for Whitney.

Now, with Whitney’s skillset and Howard’s background from Chicago, there still may be mutual interest between Whitney and UM. However, with Michigan’s scholarship situation already tight and with the staff seemingly making strong in-roads with elite prospects from the Classes of 2021 and 2022, the timing for UM to take on a traditional transfer like Whitney seems awkward for the program … and by the time he’s eligible to play in games, it seems like Whitney would be transferring in to a similar type of minutes crunch at UM that he’s leaving at UK

Don’t think he’s interested in sitting out a year and thus taking 2 more years before the NBA. Whitney was much higher rated than Matthews. I think he’ll head to the NBA/GLeague

Totally agree. He has so much talent that I wish we could have this conversation but I just don’t see him waiting around too long.

I think he lefty school now which means he may be eligible mid season next year but again may not be a fit unless some of current recruits flip and go elsewhere.
