2019 Transfer Market

Lol comical. Wait till Zion’s payments are found, UNC Greensboro will get absolutely hammered

I guess circling back to the transfer market, does the NC St news shake anyone else free to move? Any options that might be enticing to Michigan?

Not yet. It’s just a Notice of Allegations. NCAA hasn’t levied any punishment yet. Who knows how long that will take or if they’ll do anything of substance.

I wonder how calculated they may be in lodging some of these punishments, whether they would expedite in order to aid students in finding new playing homes or cynically wait so that they had to stick around the programs. Wonder how much of the behind-the-scenes negotiating might revolve around such questions.

I’d go with them dragging their heels because they don’t really care about the student athletes.

I would be pretty surprised if any of these notice of allegations impact this season. Seems much more likely that punishments will be levied down the line to me. Just based on the pace these things go.

It’s going to be devastating when the NCAA tells these programs that they can’t buy PS5s for the team during the 2020 holiday season. Program crippling.

Louisville was on probation when the second round of crap went down. If anyone should get hammered, it’s them.

Here’s the key point:

The standard timeline for completion of a major infractions case suggests that NC State would not have any NCAA-imposed sanctions before the completion of the 2019-20 basketball season. A school that receives a notice of allegations has 90 days to file a response, and the NCAA then would have another 60 days to respond to that response. At that point, a hearing would be scheduled some 30-60 days out, with a decision in another 60-90 days.

Given that timetable, a Committee on Infractions ruling likely wouldn’t be handed down before April or May 2020. Appeals could further delay resolution of the case.

I think we’ll see the same timeframe for other schools they’re targeting.

Yes, nothing about that timeframe is specific to NCSU. That’s just how these sorts of things play out.

I meant the NCAA will file against other schools so the punishments would be announced early in the off season. I think they want to avoid certain times, like just before the school year or tournament time.

Not sure that I’m following what you are saying? NCAA is expected to release at least 6 NOAs this month. Based on how this process works, no punishment ruling would be handed down in any of the cases until April/May 2020.

I hadn’t heard they were coming down this month. I was just guessing they would all come soon to meet that timeframe or maybe a little later.

I’m sure we will never know, but I wonder why Michigan never kicked the tires on this one. Especially in light of the fact that Juwan seems to be targeting a similar style of player in recruiting right now.

Are those the best programs that showed interest? That seems very unlikely, especially considering the interest shown to other transfers. He says other schools have reached out, but isn’t naming any. I wouldn’t be surprised if Michigan was among them.

UNLV is a logical choice. I don’t know what he’s looking for otherwise, but it’s an odd list of schools.

Yeah it’s weird. I would take Donnie even if he has to sit one out. He’s gonna almost certainly be better than whichever 2020 we bring in there. Anybody remember which assistant handled his recruitment at the time? Would think Saddi, right?

There wasn’t a lot to Michigan recruiting Tillman other than watching him a few times in Vegas for AAU and maybe once or twice at Findlay Prep as far as I remember.

Agreed,I’d really like to pursue him here. He just makes a lot of sense on a few levels. We should be full court pressing this one.

Everything about Tillman’s transfer has been odd. He hasn’t really announced schools or anything and has just kind of showed up on a visit. The way he left Utah was strange (AD put out a release he was taking a leave of absence, supposedly that was on them not Donnie). He as just assumed to be headed to UNLV due to waiver/connections. Then he visited Rutgers and Illinois and it seemed like an announcement to Illinois was coming at any time. Now, here we are. :man_shrugging:
