2019 Transfer Market

No question.

Hey, if he can average 13 points on 9 FG attempts against Sparty next season (like he did this year in Oakland’s game at State), I’d be comfortable with that production from the starting “2” guard spot.

That’s a pretty big ask, the chances of him averaging 13 points (let alone on 9 shots) at B1G level are slim to none (8pts against Xavier the only other high level competition he’s had). Also I highly doubt he starts, his defense will have to significantly improve. He looks like a shooter off the bench.

He put up 14pts on 12 shots at Georgia a few days before going for 13 on 9 shots at Sparty. Yes, he struggled against Xavier. Small sample sizes, but he’s been a consistent 3pt shooter over his career — in limited attempts as a Fr/So and in high-volume attempts last year — and the percentage versus Power Conference opponents is in line with his career numbers, so data to back up a reasonable confidence that he could give Michigan something from the “2” spot next season. 30mins per game at an All-Conference level is asking way too much, but 20-25mins at close to B1G league average quality :man_shrugging:

I don’t think they played Gonzaga last year. Maybe you meant Georgia? (not the same as far as quality) The guy looks like he’s a good shooter I agree. Like I said Id like to have him because he’s got some experience and he’s a good shooter was just saying he doesn’t look like much more than that (ie. he’s likely not going to raise the teams ceiling if he comes). 20 mins a game as an average quality B1G 2 guard would be great.

So glad we were able to land Castleton.

Who starts ahead of him? Not saying Cumberland is a lock to start but I don’t see any other locks at the 2 on this roster either.

That was a no brainer trade in every way. I never was a big Currie fan. Castleton just oozes potential.

Though I wouldn’t call Brooks a “lock” to start over Cumberland, IMO due to his superior defense, ball handling and athleticism Belein will have him in the starting role and Cumberland will come off the bench. Cumberland to me looks like just a shooter, and I don’t think the team can afford to have a mariginal at best defender on the floor logging starter minutes. The defense will be how this team wins same as last year.

I think pierce is the overall better player off the film Ive seen but Cumberland gives us spacing at a bigger position of need.

I honestly think even without Cumberland we’re going to be much improved from 3 for a number of reasons. I’m more worried about shot creation to the rim.

I wonder if that gap is steeper at the pg spot. I’d assume it has to be.

hey a shooter off the bench wouldn’t be bad either lol could’ve used one of those this year

I think the kid has a valuable role to play on our team, whether it’s as a shooter who gets 20 minutes a game and buries some threes or as a starter or even part time starter. As to who plays, how many minutes, and how those players are used, as always, that will be determined in practice.

But I sure hope we get the opportunity to find out what Cumberland can do for this team and how he can help our team achieve it’s goals. There are opportunities here, and if our coaches offer him, and I’m sure they will, I hope he sees the opportunities that Michigan offers him to play at the highest level while continuing his education at pretty much the highest level, too.

Looks like Currie is going the community college route. Mott Community College.

We’ll see.

A guy like Duncan Robinson became a pretty solid defender by the end of 2018, after one year with Yaklich. Oakland is not exactly a team known for defense. I’m confident Yaklich can turn him into a solid defender.

It’s possible, though Duncan’s height was a big advantage into making him a decent defender. Brooks is already very good defensively so Cumberland has a lot of catching up to do. The defensive film that was posted here makes it look like he has a LONG way to go

Its a shame I think this kid got bad advise from the beginning. Should have stayed in his original class and would be a part of Michigan’s incoming class of 2019.

With Potter transferring in, and potentially the Hausers, looks like he saw the writing on the wall.

Wisconsin now has 9 scholarship players. Yikes. No wonder they’re in on the Hausers. And they’d still have 2 spots left. Every returning player is at least somewhat established so as long as they avoid bad injuries they’ll probably be fine for next year.

Wow. Didn’t realize they were down to 9 scholarship players.

It would make me very happy to see their program tumble into being terrible.
