2019 NCAA Tournament Games Open Thread

For all of our collective nervousness on the forum, I’ll bet opposing coaches have more. Top D, low turnover rate, above average in-game adjustments (MSU games notwithstanding), any of several players that could go off for 20 pts, outstanding PG, lots of tournament experienced players…that sounds very good when reading it back!

I’m not nervous just not confident. 3/4 of very good teams will be done after next weekend.

I know that Kelvin Sampson had some kind of scandal force him out at OK, but I think he’s probably a pretty good coach. He had OK challenging KS for the B12 championship year after year there, and seems to have revived Houston as a power. Also a rather interesting person:

I’m skeptical that Gonzaga can take down two major-conference elite-defenses in a row. M, TT and FSU aren’t the same thing, but of that group, I’m not clear why it wouldn’t be M favored to win a weekend-long rockfight. I like the idea that we have Matthews to put on Culver, presuming that’s what happens. To be clear though, would rather play Gonzaga.

The shorter Sampson interview: The other team wants to win, too. Still, we’re gonna come out and play the second half.

I’m worried about Culver, but I think Matthews will do as good of a job as anyone can on him. I’m sure he’ll get his, hopefully not in an efficient manner.

I’m actually more worried about Morretti, and whether Poole can stay discipliend enough to limit his 3 point looks. Morretti is pretty efficient, both from three and the free throw line.

Remember when the whole tournament was only on CBS and we would be stuck watching some 20-point blowout in our designated regional game before they finally would switch to the exciting overtime game? That I do not miss.

Ohio State shooting 47% from 3 and down 8. Not promising

It was exhilarating waiting for the scores to pop up on the screen every few minutes though! Only updates.

And I am at my beach house without TV service, so the March Madness app is a godsend. But, far from perfect and at least 30secs-1 min behind the live broadcast. Txts sometimes interrupt the broadcast so I have to watch Barkley, Spike Lee, and Samuel Jackson over and over again with the mandatory pre-stream commercial.

Big boys tourney this year. Conference Sweet 16 numbers:

ACC - 5
SEC - 4
BIG - 3

Pretty sure they just showed Michigan with the late tip Thurs night. Michigan also opened as a 2 point favorite.

They were always so slow on the draw. One game would be clearly better than the game we were watching but we had to wait until it was 100% certain one team would win before CBS finally switched games. That was rough.

Welp, looks like I’ll be taking Friday off.

I remember, back in the early 70’s when finals and consolation game were televised by NBC. Those were the start of the Billy Packer announcing days.

Haha very rough! Funny looking back at it now.

What was worse is when you had an allegiance to a secondary team in that region or in general. You weren’t sure if it was on TV first of all. Secondly, it was so frustrating when they’d break off to watch portions of another game.

I do wish they’d bring back the actual home court designs though! I miss those over the generic ones used now.

Ha. For those going into work, it’s either going to be the Vince McMahon walk in Friday morning or one sad unproductive day.

Wesson is going to be a serious load before all is said and done.

Nah Gonzaga has a tiny fan base and Spokane is really far from Anaheim. UM had significantly more fans than Gonzaga last year. I would guess a Gonzaga um game would be at least 70-30 in favor of um.

Really, you gotta play these games. The only team I fear Michigan getting crushed by, perhaps irrationally, is Duke. But I guess that would be in the semifinal anyway. . .
