2019 - G - Nah'Shon Hyland (VCU Commit)

I immediately know a guy won’t be coming to play basketball for John Beilein when he puts up a “where my fans in [official visit location] at” social media post. Lol.

Either way, doesn’t matter whether we felt like we didn’t have a shot or if we liked Hyland more. My guess would be we end up with Pierce and Hyland, either because we can’t wait on Franz or he wants to stay in Europe or both.

Sam was one that said that Wagner will get the last chance call. I bet by the end of next week we will have a very good idea what direction it will be. By then pierce will have decided and I wouldn’t be surprised if Hyland ends up taking the 29th-30th visit quinones was going to. In fact if a visit isn’t scheduled for Hyland next week, I think that likely means Franz is likely coming.

Not sure matt D’s premise that Michigan is “built for early season success” is borne out by statistics. Under Beilein, Michigan has had almost the same record the last half of the B10 season as the first half (one game difference before 2019—56-43 v 54-44). And two of the second half drops were significantly impacted by injuries. Then when you add in Michigan going 33-11 in post season play, it would appear that Beilein’s Michigan teams finish stronger than they start.

i do find it interesting they cancel the visit just after a pierce visit and a wagner in home, going into a weekend they will watch hyland.

could mean alot of things or that the writing was on wall specifically with LQ. Interesting timing none the less

I assume he’s referring to next year’s team not a generic Beilein team, in which case I would agree with him given our experience.

You may be right, but I don’t believe that is the objective meaning.

That’s what I got out of it. It makes sense since we already will have the Simpson-Teske pick and roll connection ready to go.

On the other hand, we came out of the gates on fire this past season despite three new starters and fell off later so idk.

Looks a lot like some of the workout videos posted on Poole

But much of this really depends on the roster.

Right now, we’ll be returning two key starters (including Simpson, for his third year in that role), and another guy who has played significant minutes for two years (Livers).

That’s a lot more returning experience than we’ve had in most years.

And we’re now a team that relies on its defense first and foremost, and those three guys are our best defenders.

In terms of Big Ten teams, I would say only MSU and perhaps Maryland return as much talent as we do - and consider me unimpressed with Turgeon’s coaching.

Nationally, most teams are losing a lot of guys. Virginia will lose its top four guys, UNC is losing White, Maye and Little, Duke will be “reloading” again with freshmen, so will UK for the most part.

In short, I don’t see a ton of really talented teams coming back next year. So I think core group of Simpson, Teske and Livers is pretty strong to start the year. I assume improvement from Castleton, Brooks, Johns and DeJulius (how much, who knows?). And among Wilson, Bajema, and any additional players we land, I’d like to think at least 1-2 will be solid contributors.

You need to take your time when reading tea leaves out there…

Everything falls into place in time.

Could be, but when I make a claim relying on a fact–that Quinones was visiting–and that turns out to be wrong (or even changed)–I’ll acknowledge that I was in the wrong. As I told my kids growing up, nobody’s always right, but it’s important to always be accountable.

Anyway, we’ve got 3 left. Pierce, to me, is most likely to step in and be very productive next year, Wagner has the best upside (by a lot), and Hyland plays at the position of greatest need. Any would be fine with me.

This. D and I have a history of disagreement, but I think he meant next year’s team only–and that take I agree with. Haven’t seen enough of Hyland, but I’m now intrigued…

I think he meant the current roster, primarily non conference.

Nah, this is the thread. Had to re-create it to link to his recruit profile on the site.

Someone knocked The Moving Screen pod, then all hell broke loose. Too much golf chat or something.

If the stats are right, Hyland had 9 points, 5 assists in front of Beilein last night. 2-of-8 from the floor, 1-of-5 from 3-point range.

Just a fwiw but rivals said at a minimum Hyland will be in their top 100 when they update the ratings
