Young was perfect for our needs. Especially improving post D and upgrading rebounding/toughness.
How many guys have we lost that weāve also REALLY targeted?
Off the top of my head.
Blueitt
Jaylen Brown
Keita Bates-Diop
Jamal Murray
Derryck Thornton
Tyus Battle
Josh Langford
Cassius Winston
Your point still stands, but I donāt think you can put those last two in that bucket. Question the reasons all you want, but it would seem that we stopped recruiting them rather than lost them. Itās also not clear you should include Murray. But there are certainly others like Leaf and Blackmon that should be included.
Well, we beat out OSU for Teske.
The nature of recruiting is that you lose far more battles than you win, and thatās even true for Duke and Kentucky.
We lost Costello and Valentine to MSU, but instead got McGary and Stauskas. Iām happy with that trade.
The truth is, we really havenāt gone up against either MSU or OSU for many players. Booker spurned both MSU and us for UK. Blueitt picked Xavier over an MSU offer after we quit recruiting him. We scouted but did not offer McQuaid and Ahrens - seemingly could have had either. Not sure I would really count Langford or Winston in this discussion. Seems like Brandon Johns will be a direct battle.
LAW - Did OSU offer Teske ābeforeā he verbally committed to M or after?
We havenāt lost young yet. We really need him and I really like his game. Sucks those two are eyeing him now.we can still win this one though screw them.
Ummmā¦5 of the 8 on your list did not go to MSU or OSU.
OSU offered before he committed.
It was well known that after his summer camp showing that Teske was Mās for the asking.
OSU got involved after it was apparent that they might be missing out on a talented in stater.
Give Beilein ALL the credit for identifying him early and locking him down.
Im not sure this was a contentious 1/1 battle for very long though, if at all. Seeing that OSU indeed offered formally, I would have to chalk this up as recruiting win against a rival though.
Since programs look at dozens of guys, there will always be plenty of ammo for angry posters to use on coachesāyou didnāt get this guy, this guy, and this guy. Itās weak, though, especially when weāre talking about a coach that the whole country esteems for plucking diamonds in the rough. (95% of programs WISH they had been in on some of the guys we ultimately lost out on, of course.) But carry on, because neither logic nor pleading from Dylan stops this kind of palaver. And it is nice that there is now such a healthy level of attention to the site.
Who has OSU beat us out on? Bates-Diop and Tate. We beat them on Teske. And OSU offered Teske June 15, the same day we did. He committed a couple months later, in August. And OSU would up with Micah Potter, who they waited until March the next year to offer, and who they would trade for Teske in a heartbeat.
Itās also notable to see the different caliber of offers Young is receiving versus Cain. And again, I like what Iāve seen from Cain, but JB is looking pretty smart in targeting Young early right now.
Letās revisit in July, or maybe sooner than that. Iād venture to say the caliber of offer will be roughly equal.
Weāll see indeed, and if theyāre comparable it means Cain will have had a great summer. But even if it does, it would make Beilein look even smarter. He offered Young early, before others, and he will have offered Cain early, before others (because OSU and MSU are not offering Cain now, as far as we know). It would only bolster his well-deserved rep for early evaluation skills.
Personally, I think others will beat JB to the punch in terms of offers after this weekend. Weāll see
This is my guess too - but Cain knows the JB process and I have to assume he knows heās getting an offer on the 27thā¦so if heās as smart as he seems to be, the timing of the offers wonāt matter. (aka heās basically been offered without being offered already)
You are obviously the insider on this one, but I would guess the assistant coaching situation is going to play a factor in the Cain commitment timing - as it relates to UM, anyway. Your thoughts?
Iām 99% sure it was before.
