2017 Recruiting Notes

Bacon - in my opinion, I think Donnie would be receptive to UM if they showed legit interest. Donnie has a college ready body right now, and would instantly improve the post defense and rebounding. Donnie informs me that he has a 37 inch vert off 1 leg and 36 inches off 2 legs. Think he has tremendous upside as a college player.

Matt ā€“ who would be better for us in the long term: Donnie Tillman or Young?

Personally I am a fan of Tillman. From your interview, doesnā€™t sound like there has been much sustained interest lately.

Donnie was hurt, so it was a bit difficult for any coach to see him, let alone JB all the way in Michigan. My personal opinion is that Donnie has more upside and more immediate impact, and thatā€™s no slight to Young, as I love his game as well. However, within the confineā€™s of JBā€™s system (loves shooting), he may prefer Young.

Iā€™m not really good at twitter, could you copy (or embed) the best 5 or 10 of these (other than MattD or Guestavo, as we know their opinion already)? Iā€™d be interested to see who is saying whatā€¦

@MattD Who is the new 2016 prospect that Sam Webb just mentioned on Twitter?

Hereā€™s the tweet with a pic of Kostas Antetokounmpo

Seems like itā€™d be too late to get involved with him. I assume heā€™s attracting plenty of high major attention if only due to his brother.

I know youā€™ve said that, and you may be right, weā€™ll see. Caris really underwent an amazing transformation from his freshman to sophomore year at Michigan. Regardless of where they are right now, it would be surprising to see Cain with a handle as good as sophomore Caris at the same stage of development.

He really reminds me of GR3, to be honest. And Glenn ended up a five star, so people obviously saw a lot to like in his game.

Anyway, should be fun to track Cain. Iā€™ll be curious to see how long his recruitment goes after we offer.

And really, when Kam Chatman guarded Swanigan for a bit, he did a great job. I agree, I would love to see guys like this at the four. Even Vitto Brown (who we declined to offer) is now really playing well.

You mean like when people got all excited about Kidd-Gilchrist visiting Michigan?

I would not expect a commitment if that is what you are thinking.

Wow. I would be incredibly happy if we got kostas. i donā€™t know a whole lot about him but his game looks to be what we need at the PF. I donā€™t know why we waited so long to look at this kid but the video Iā€™ve seen is pretty impressive. I hope we truly look into this kid.

No, I was thinking he would decide within a few months.

I hope to have an update for you guys within a few days after the visit

As far as Kostas, the info is just that Michigan has started to show interest. Kostas also is not super far along in his recruiting process for some reason and has considered reclassifying to 2017.

I kind of feel like the most likely scenario is we get Grant Mullins to fill the last scholarship.

Donā€™t think M is a serious player for Kostas, IMO.

Obviously, itā€™s unfair to the kid to expect him to immediately drop everything and commit. Since MSU is a great instate program too, I would be surprised if he at least didnā€™t want to talk to them and see if they offer, too. And I would think if other regional powers (say OSU or Indiana) offered, he would at least want to explore those options. He would have to make quite an impression for schools like Duke, UK, and the like to get involved, but of course thatā€™s not impossible.

At the same time, if he doesnā€™t commit within a couple months, the Michigan staff will have to continue to recruit other players. If guys like Young and Jaren Jackson, for example, wanted to commit, you canā€™t really say no if you give Cain the chance first and heā€™s not ready. Guys like Towns and Winston seemingly waited themselves out of a spot (and both wound up with great options anyway). I imagine guys like Scruggs and Wilkes donā€™t really factor into this, since both are long shots just by virtue of being five star kids, and both will probably take their recruitments into the fall.

I would think Cain would come to the Michigan elite players camp (early June, if I recall) and then at that point might be on commitment watch.

Right, I would guess that Cainā€™s eagerness or lack thereof might depend on what other offers come in. His offers now are pretty scant ā€“ Georgia, which has been to one NCAA tourney in 5 years, WSU, which hasnā€™t been to the tourney in a long time and is far away, and Xavier, which has had good success, but is probably a step below Michigan, especially for a Michigan family who cares about education. By mid-July, there will be a bunch more events and camps, etc. If heā€™s like Ibi, who was a riser and might have picked up more offers, but who had two offers that were clearly above the rest, he might jump, like Ibi did, to make sure they donā€™t disappear. If he suddenly has offers from IU, MSU, and OSU, that might slow him down. Could depend on how the scholarship situation looks for some of his favorites too. Either way, itā€™s hopefully an exciting and satisfying time for Cain.

I have no idea why but all of these posts just updated for me dating back a week ago. I couldnā€™t figure out why there was no activity. I thought you all got banned. Tons of info missed.

Love Kyle young still. He looks taller to me as well. Really want him still. Also Iā€™m rest excited about kostas although I have no idea if he has any interest at all. WAtched him for two minutes and instantly I can say is wow. The upside is unreal. I know he just is blooming but how the big schools arenā€™t all over him is beyond me. If thatā€™s how we use that scholarship sign me up. Iā€™d prefer him over any transfer graduate or not.

Iā€™m with you guys on Cain to. Letā€™s go kostas, young, Cain and call it a day. No fifth year for donall if thatā€™s are options. Then add a 2018 pg. forget west compared to those guys. Young is underrated. Kostas clearly is to. Iā€™d love to add him. Iā€™d be very excited with the 16 class if we added him.
