2017 Recruiting Notes

That’s fair. My desire for Young over Cain is only based upon the fact that we need a PF more than we need a wing player. The fact Cain is a better creator for himself doesn’t change anything for me because Young is a pure PF and that is what we truly need to go with this group of guys.

Both would be great, I honestly do not know if we can get both of them. Is it true that we have offered Young already and not Cain?

Yes but Cain gets his offer on the 27th.

I think we need BOTH. We need an end of shot clock guy that we can just feed the ball to and he can get to the bucket and score - Cain is that guy IMO.

We also need a guy that has the size, strength, motor to defend the paint and score garbage points - Young is that guy.

Just let me live in my dream world where we can have both lol

I’m there with you in wanting both. If we have the scholarships available, I don’t see why we don’t pursue both. Starting them at the SF and PF spots would be pretty ideal IMO.

Are there any other legit names out there if we don’t land one or both (strictly speaking at the 3/4)? And are any of these kids going to commit without knowing who our assistant coaches will be?

Danilo Djuricic out of Canada. I’d much rather have Cain or Young.

Michigan leads for Johns? My Spartan friends think otherwise but they typically are months behind.

I don’t think UM leads for Johns at all FWIW. Im not a huge fan of his game. He’s struggled in the 2 games I’ve been able to catch

Please. I’m happy to just talk about Cain, the player. Frankly, I really like the kid and hope we get him. You’re the guy who wants to turn it into an argument over whether we have offered him quickly enough, and then start comparing it to other players from different classes. Is it possible for you to just discuss recruits without turning it into a bitch session about the Michigan coaches?

Cain now hitting midrange jumpers out of PnR sets on the left corner.

Seems to me we need both and will take both if they want to come.

2017 scholarships:

PG: Simpson

SG: MAAR, Poole

Wing: Duncan, Watson, Chatman

C: Wagner, Teske, Davis, Wilson

That’s 10, assuming Donnal does not get a 5th year (50/50 IMO). Even if he does, we can comfortably take Cain and Young. And in 2018, 4-5 will open up (MAAR, Chatman, Robinson, Wilson, and possibly Donnal).

Looking at this, it seems like a near certainty we add another PG in 2017, like a West. I think we would do that and oversign by one (allowing us to take both Cain and Young).

Cain just received a baseline pass about 10 feet from the rim, took 1 dribble and absolutely dunked that thing down off 2 feet. Nice to see a baseline finish, we sorely needed that last year.

By the way JB is watching Cain again.

Yes, we do lead for Johns, could be a co-leader. MSU is not a fav, second to 3rd tier at best. He is not a fan of Izzy’s “technique” (red-faced, snot nosed screaming).

Still a long way to go. Again, like Jackson, not guessing here.

Agree LA, good take re scholarship situation. I think they go over one too.

I’m not familiar with Johns’ recruitment enough to speak intelligently, but he’s been on MSU campus FAR too much to say he’s not an Izzo fan IMO. Still not a big fan of his game

That’s the last thing we need IMO. Can’t waste a scholarship on a marginal, role player
