Cool thanks that was irritating me. You ever seen the kid ranked 59 hamier wright? We’re not linked to him at all but I feel like he’s our ideal four. His style would fit very well. He’s someone I’d love for them to recruit along with young. Keep our options open.
Wolverine3, curious why you favor Mann? Is he a good recruiter? I am very anxious to see what JB does with that spot. Also wondering on timeline, coaches on the road next weekend.
Mann is a good recruiter. He was a good recruiter for Iowa St and Dayton. He was the lead on Monte Morris. However, Val, BA, and Meyer are/were pretty good recruiters. Recruiting out of the assistants is not a weakness.
Webb said that the hire(s) could go into May. I was shocked to read that considering the AAU weekends coming. He ended up being right. Beilein is in no hurry for whatever reason.
They can still have the three coaches (Beilein, Meyer, and BA) on the road along with one of the support staff to make it a full staff for the recruiting period. It’s not really necessary to hire someone immediately, although it would be nice.
Another thing to think about it is, if the hire is from another high major school, that assistant could have already developed relationships with recruits that UM is already on or hasn’t started recruiting. Another reason to wait, and potentially get Mann, is that coaches that don’t have jobs don’t have restrictions in regards to contact with recruits, another advantage.
Yeah I assume Chris Hunter goes on the road but figured JB would have his top target or two lined up ready to go. Wonder how much Bacari still on the fence effects the process.
Glenn Robinson was ranked #120 when he committed. Caris Levert was not ranked. Hardaway and Burke were like in the 80-100 range. JB is good at finding hidden gems; he hasn’t been very good at going head-to-head against the likes of Duke and UK for five star kids.
Moreover, we look at a lot of kids, many of whom we don’t end up offering.
Things still looking good with Cain? I read he’s playing well.
Yes, and Mann has been recruiting Cain at ISU.
Good recruiter, Detroit connection, very solid young coach.
He’s been in touch, but not very actively.
I should have something soon. And he had a hell of a weekend in Grand Rapids.
Not sure how that Bowen kid is ranked so highly. Watch those games on ESPN week or 2 ago and did not look that impressive. He showed some decent offensive skill…But WOW his defense absolutely sucked!!! He looked completely lost on a 2-3 zone, didn’t know how to rotate and he looks like 100lbs. His game offensively didn’t outweigh his horrendous defensive struggles.
If he looked bad in a 2-3 zone, that’s more than likely coaching and not the individual player’s skills assuming the kid has a decent motor.
I didn’t see the game but that’s just my 2 cents in those situations. If you’re going to play a zone, you had better of practiced it a whole lot.
If anyone’s interested, the so-called All-Canadian Game will be on tonight at 7:30 ET.
Among current U-M targets, Danilo Djuricic is in the game. (I’m not that high on him, but this should be a chance to see him vs good competition, albeit with all-star-game type defense.)
I think Christian David and Abu Kigab were originally slated to be on the roster but I don’t see them listed on the official game site. Justin Jackson was supposed to play but he might be out after sustaining an injury at the Nike Hoop Summit. Anyway, should be an entertaining game.
It’s on TSN in Canada – not sure who would carry it in the US.
FWIW Djuricic is running with CIA this summer, so we’ll get to see him vs. legit comp.
Still should be a fun game. The Maker brothers slated to appear too.
Really surprising it would go into May, is he waiting for a coach to become available potentially? Can’t think of any other reason.
No it was not the coaching at all. It was basic fundamentals of the game. The ball was on the right wing and the whole team shifted over like they were supposed to except him. He stayed outside of the paint and the team they were playing had a guy sitting right in the middle of the lane WIDE OPEN. The center of the 2-3 was guarding and where he was supposed to be. This was on Bowen. It was such basic stuff you start learning if 5th grade. I learned this when I started bball in 4th, 5th grade and you keep getting coached up on in thru the years. I have coached the basic fundamentals of the zone from that age thru kids entering high school and in high school.
It wasn’t just one time either. He is just plain bad defensively in all areas.
Hope to see some updates and thoughts on the players.
presuming all of that goes well, this should end with an offer right?
