Based on JB protocol and my intel on the situation, I would say there is a very good probability that Jamal is offered on April 27th.
Seems like they wanted to push the visit/offer out until after a weekend or two of AAU games. Canāt blame them for that.
Also guys - just in case I forget to post something UM related here, give us a follow on Twitter. We plan on releasing some more Cain related content very soon.
Djuricic had 14 pts and 8 rbs (4-8 shooting) in 35 minutes for Team White. Looks to have a good three-point stroke and doesnāt shy away from contact. That said, for a guy who played 35 min, he seemed to disappear at times. FWIW, doesnāt look like a great athlete and there isnāt much flash in his game at all.
The game MVP was 2017 6-4 PG Jahvon Blair who dropped 31. Heās pretty under the radar but will likely be a great find for somebody. Smooth, crafty big PG with a good floater, not a great athlete. Check him out.
In terms of uncommitted guys who I wish we had pursued, I was most impressed with OāShae Brissett (a smooth 6-8 SF who scored 24pts) and Kalif Young, a beast inside and on the boards who had 20 & 9. Notre Dame looks like they got a terrific under-the radar guard for their system in Nicola Djogo, a bouncy 6-6 guard who can shoot it.
Overall, it was a fun game ā itās a great platform for showcasing Canadian talent, especially the players who donāt play at prep schools down south and donāt get much exposure.
Thanks for the report. Wonder if heāll get some open gym time with the team.
Cain is ranked #188 by 247sports and not ranked by ESPN and scout, is this a guy we should be prioritizing?
Rankings are a nice tool, but certainly not the end all be all when evaluating. That being said, Jamal is ranked #70 by Rivals. I have no doubt Jamal will shoot up the rankings now that heās playing with The Family (Nike). He will get tons of exposure. No doubt in my mind heās a high major prospect with a very high ceiling.
First saw the Cain news from your Twitter account. Immediately knew what the āfull academic presentationā meant. Heās getting offered no question.
I thought MattD hated Rivals and loved ESPN?
But I wouldnāt worry about Cainās rankings too much, and as Matt said, heāll get more exposure this summer. Also, trust JB!
Fair enough. Only time will tell.
Also, Jamal is a generic 3 start to Scout. That being said, Scout doesnāt even reflect his offers from Xavier or Georgia - a reflection of how outdated Scout is in relation to Cain. Updating usually occurs during live evaluation periods and rankings updates.
Given how close you are to this situation and how you generally respond to these types of questions (i.e. respecting the family etc) i doubt you will respond, but do you expect Cain to jump at an offer or sit through the evaluation period and longer?
Good assessment, I watched as well and would agree on Danilo. Not the type of prospect we need right now but really wish we would make a run at Oshae Brissett. Exact type of 4 we need, would have to put on some weight but athletic and has some skill. He is a 17 but read where he was thinking of reclassifying back to 16.
He is also listed at 6ā7" and 175 pounds. Is that current?
Jamal is 6ā6 and 185 as of October 2015.
New film on Kyle Young. Film shows ability to do everything we need - rebound, defend paint, finish in the paint, knock down the 3. Dream class is Poole, Cain, Young
Mann looks to have the best resume IMO.
I just saw Brian Snow say that nobody from Scout has seen Cain play yet. Rankings are still pretty early for the '17 kids.
I saw that as well - which is why evaluations based on ranking alone arenāt very reliable. No doubt in my mind that Jamal is a top 100 prospect despite rankings.
I do find it kinda funny you have consistently bashed Rivals, but they appear to be higher on Cain than anyone else by a long shot. And by the way, I like Cain a lot too, so I think you and Rivals are right on this one. Seems like he would be a really good fit for us. Good luck with your site, too - obviously we argue a lot on here but I respect your passion for the game and I think itās great youāve developed a site.
