2017 Recruiting Notes

At this point in time (pre-April evaluation period), I’d say a Beilein visit is a pretty good sign that Michigan is going to play really close attention when AAU tips off.

Stewart is ranked 135th nationally with a pretty light offer list. Another case of JB recruiting like he’s still at Richmond.

Being ranked #135 isn’t that bad, especially with him going into his senior year. We’ve seen a ton of guys move up 50 spots in the rankings during the spring/summer. That ranking doesn’t mean a whole lot at the moment.

IMO he’s underranked at #135. Think he’s more like a 65-90 type guy.

Where do you guys see him at #135. Just checked ESPN and they have him at #64. Probably on the high end of where I would have him, but I think he’s better than #135 for sure.

I didn’t know his ranking but the limited footage isn’t that impressive IMO. He’s a big PG which may make him attractive to some but his handle is pretty loose and looks to be an average athlete/not particularly quick or explosive. If he’s basically a SG with a smooth jumper, it seems redundant with Poole (who I assume is better). Not knocking him – just think at least one guy in the next class needs to be a plus athlete and shot creator.

Certainly agree with redundancy, I like Poole better as well. From a positional standpoint, we need a 3 and a 4 more than anything, and it isn’t particularly close. From a talent standpoint, we need athleticism, and an interior presence in terms of rebounding and scoring. Hence, we need an athletic 3 that can defend and do a bit of playmaking, along with a 4 that can rebound and be an upgrade in terms of post defense, while still fitting the offensive system.

Sounds like we need Cain.

I saw the 135 ranking on 247. Actually it was 133 upon looking again.

Evaluating basketball players based off rankings is pretty lazy. He is a 60-80 type.

I have seen Jamal Cain live a few times. He is only “ranked” by one service in the top 100. 95 percent of this board that has seen him live begs for the day that Beilein offers him. He is an upper echelon talent.

And I will have more to back that up in a few days

Out with it already, Matt!

j/k take your time

Have you seen Faulds lately? I was a little surprised to hear he was running with The Family. Has he always? Not to beat a dead horse, but I liked him better than Davis if Beilein is married to that type of kid at the 5.

And I hope Beilein doesn’t decide to offer Jamal before everyone gets in on him. That will upset me. He checks ALL the boxes for Beilein. No clue what he is waiting for.

Just saw Cain was the MVP of the Storm Classic. Le sigh…

Where did you see a ESPN top 100? The list for 2017 I see goes up to just sixty.

Stewart was just offered by Georgetown a couple days ago and after the summer is when you can start judging a bit more regarding offers…not now.

We need to offer Cain soon, also hire Mann.

I had a chance to see play Faulds play this weekend, and I think he’s a mid-major type. Did not look like a high major IMO. Average athlete, very raw in terms of skill and footwork. He played for The Family last year as well.

Faulds was the 4th big used (2nd off the bench), Ike Eke was MUCH more impressive IMO. Think he’s going to play himself into some more high major offers this summer.

Just check the database, it generates a list based on grade (numerical value such as 97). Stewart is #64 according to grade.
