2017 Recruiting Notes

I would say the staff certainly has legit interest, no doubt about that. In my opinion, he’s certainly high on the board, especially on the wing. Overall though, I’d say Young is probably a bit higher on the wish list (quite obvious considering the offer).

I went through the trouble of linking the Bradford interview, and yet didn’t include a few clips…SMH. Here’s a few clips of Davion in the State Playoffs. Really explosive player.

If Michigan offers Cain, do you think he commits or do you think it will be an extended recruitment?

Nice try lol. Again, I have to respect the privacy of the family. I will do my very best to have some information on Jamal within the next 4-6 days (hopefully sooner).

April 27th…

What’s April 27th stand for?

That’s when MattD spills the beans about how the Illuminatus have occupied John B’s brain and unveils his top-secret counter-revolutionary plan to replace all of our players with Draymond Green. I kid, I kid.

Based on what Cain says his priorities are in MattD’s interview, it seems like Cain’s blue if JB wants him. Also seems like he easily passes JB’s “personality test”, lol.

Michigan needs Cain or a guy just like him. Would be a shame to let him slip away.

For the time being, I will just assume that Matt’s cryptic “April 27th” comment is the day he will be offered and commit on the spot.

Nice article on Cain. It can’t hurt that he mentions his Jordans in the interview.

To their credit, I think that both MattD and Bear have modulated their tone a little. Maybe they had just burnt themselves out a bit, or maybe (my thesis) MattD recognizes that if he is going to be taken seriously as a hoop journo he has to be more circumspect. I for one welcome this, and have to admit to some creeping affection for both of these guys. Clearly, they know their hoop, and I learn a lot from them even when they annoy me!

Cain sounds like a great kid, btw.

New film on Terrence Lewis

Is It just me or does it seem for a 6’6/6’7 guy, he has a hard time getting off the floor? Zak Irvin style. Good looking shot though.

John - no offense, but I think its just you. I would say Lewis most definitely has better verticality in relation to Zak. Lewis is universally appraised as a good athlete, and I think its fairly obvious on film as well. Not an elite athlete by any means, but certainly above average verticality and athleticism overall.

Just rewatched Zak’s high school film and I’m going to have to side with John here. In fact, Irvin seemed to have had far more bounce in his game than Lewis at the same point in their careers.

I’ve only seen the footage of Lewis you just posted but I’m not overly impressed at all with his game. Not nearly athletic enough for Michigan’s current situation IMO.

How can’t you see when he dunks he is barely over the rim? It’s rather obvious to me. Most likely that can increase a bit but not a chance in the world this kid is a plus athlete right now. He looks strong for his age but his vertical ability is average at best. Watch him dunk, watch zak dunk in high school. There’s a difference there and Irvin is not a good athlete at all. Maybe it’s just this video but that seems pretty unlikely.

Reasonable minds can differ of course, but I’m certainly not the only person that thinks of Lewis as an above average leaper/athlete.

And this looks like an above average athlete to me

John - its the fluidity where there is the big discrepancy. Zak has to stop and gather off 2 feet before he elevates, whereas Lewis can catch and elevate all in one motion off 1 foot. Just a big difference in quick twitch explosion IMO.

I’m going to agree with both Matt and John here. I think Lewis is definitely more fluid than Zak was as a junior but I think Zak might of gotten up a little better. Another thing to think about is Zak’s age at this point of his career. I believe he was an 18 year old junior and graduated high school at 19. Wasn’t he a full year older than Gary Harris, who was a grade ahead of him?

That one year age jump makes a huge difference for most kids. I don’t know how old Lewis is but I would imagine he 16 or 17 like most high school juniors. Have to think he’ll make another jump when he gets into a college weight program.

Last question, is UM actually recruiting him?
