I feel like if we land young somehow we should swing for the fences on the third guy we chase.Preferably an athletic highly rated wing man like Bowen. Even if we don’t land whatever five stars or thereabouts ranking , we can afford to find another diamond in the rough because Poole and young would be such a good duo to start. I actually would be surprised for young if he didn’t finish up in the top fifty like poole and Simpson have jumped by this time next year. Poole should help recruits some fellow Midwestern guys to big blue. He said on a tweet to trust him 17 in Ann Arbor would be fire. He needs to recruit a star athletic wing with him.
Well said and I completely agree. Its the guys in the 25-75 range that should be our top targets and then we can fill out the classes with the guys in 75-150 range. Of course there will be exceptions in certain years where it makes sense to prioritize some of the lower ranked kids who have upside and fit our system, but the biggest failing lately has been getting those top 75 guys.
Either getting early commits or spreading a wider net.
Thankfully 2017 started with a great pickup in Poole. That gives a lot of hope for the class and should give the coaches some better idea with limited/uncertain scholarships where to spend the majority of their time recruiting.
So I had a chance to see Isaiah Livers (17/PF) from Kalamazoo Central last week…cannot believe the staff isn’t at least showing preliminary interest. Kid plays a position of need with a skill set that we sorely need…and he’s right down the street. Appears to be close to college ready in terms of size/strength, has high motor, average/above average verticality, above average shot for a 4. Can handle a bit in transition, decent footwork. Haven’t seen him ranked on any site (not even in the databases), but appears to be a classic 3/4star tweener, a guy in the 100-150 range IMO…very attainable. Hope the staff shows some interest, would be a really nice fallback option if we can’t land Young at the 4.
How tall? He looks to slow to play the 3. He is very active though which is nice. Has that Juwan Howard release.
He is listed at 6’8 on Verbal Commits but he looks more like 6’5 in these videos.
Kid has great footwork around the basket. Nice touch from the outside. If we are looking to increase our athleticism I don’t think he is the guy
Did a bit more digging and found Livers a 4star/#103 at 6’8, 205. Kind of weird because a Google search of ‘Rivals Isaiah Livers’ didn’t give me any hits but searching their updated 150 reflected his name.
Kind of a hocked Rivals essentially agrees with my assessment/ranking…rivals is usually HORRIBLE IMO with rankings, have Young at #139, which is criminal.
Agreed he doesn’t appear to be great laterally, but he would sure up our 2 biggest needs - generating points in the paint and preventing the opposition from doing the same
The one thing with a kid like this is a program like Dayton and Xavier have taken this exact type of kid and created great basketball teams
He is way to slow to play the three. I preferred Davis’s games much more and they looked to have the same game. I didn’t see a sf there at all. I’ll
Have to see more videos
Looks like a guy who isn’t afraid of contact. Good name also. He’ll be a nice find… for somebody.
Guys - I didn’t say he was a 3/4 in terms of position, said he was a 3-4 STAR tweener
Looks like I’m not the only one that sees some potential in Livers, apparently Izzo does as well…
Has Michigan made contact with this kid at all?
How is JB spending time at Monroe CC this fall and not getting on Cain and Livers?
ahh makes sense.
The first video you posted looked way better. He has a nice game.
I personally like Young and Cain more than Livers.
Totally agree, think Livers is a good fallback option…should establish some type of relationship with him. Would much rather expend a scholarship on Livers vs. Jarrod West given the choice considering roster needs and talent.
Would you be happy with West-Poole-Young/Cain?
