I get this is the new thing but what type of quad 1 and 2s? I think two top 5 wins and a top ten win over Purdue all on the road or neutral is far more impressive then 5 quad 1 victories on the road over say the Georgia’s and Arkansas of the world. I get it’s a new tool and barometer but I hope ( not holding my breath) that the big ten champ on a 9 game win streak and only 7 ( quality) losses would trump the sec and big 12 gaming the rpi then beating up on eachother. Also top 2o win Ohio st , then the Texas, ucla, both marylands, at penn st. We have less quad 1s but beating m st twice and Purdue once all away from home would have to one of the best trio of wins anyone’s produced all year.

I’d be very disappointed in the seeding if we weren’t considered a top 8 team after all that. Guess I’d have to see who’s ahead and compare. Maybe I’m wrong but I was looking through the top 15 ahead of us on the polls and our resume looked much better than say Wichita st, the zags and auburn ( I do think the zags are very good but they didn’t have the wins we did)

The brackets I’ve seen with tennesee in the second round and Xavier as our 1 are pretty spicy. Now I’m wary of Xavier and think their very good but almost any sweet sixteen game is going to be a top team barring upset.

I think tennesee is one of the more for real sec teams but I still think we’re better.

Anybody got an updated chart? Is Maryland in the top 75? No right? I thought they were 68 the other day? Is that quad 1 or 2?

Um…look right above…and below.

MD is 64 on RPI right now. I don’t think they’re likely to drop more than 11 spots even with a neutral court loss to Wiscy in the BTT, but we’re probably MD fans in the BTT anyway.

No, it wasn’t tongue in cheek. You went on at length on how we should be at least a 2 and that there was talk of a 1, and how you’d studied it very carefully.

I don’t think you can just quote @slyboogie2 as the pulse of what people think around here. He tends to be a bit exuberant and optimistic to put it gently

Well, you said it was “key” to our resume. Key to what? What was going to happen if Texas won that game but couldn’t possibly happen if they lost?

Saying it is “key” is not the same thing as the obvious point that it’s better in some degree if they win, no matter how small.

You and wolverheel both implied that no one here was saying that. I showed you, and now you’re moving the goalposts. Whatever.

Yeah I’m not sure how granular the committee goes on wins besides just looking at the groupings. I’ve always assumed they don’t really

Are you even a Michigan fan, IMC? You are the most negative person regardless of how well they are playing. Everyone is excited and happy about how the team is trending upwards and you’re here to try to shoot everyone down again. If you don’t get enjoyment following this team, maybe get a new team

I’m still waiting for @Inmycourt to respond about how the team exceeded his expectations and what he thinks of them at this point. 13-5 is far better than expected, do you like what you see? Clearly we aren’t a 2 seed and the majority of the fans here will be realistic about that. What say you of our current performance to date?

Btw, BartTorvik has us as a 3 if we win out (assumed we have double bye but I doubt a win versus Iowa or Illinois changes much).

Your post came after people discussing if Michigan could be a 4 seed if they win out. No one is moving the goal posts.

Michigan is most likely a 5-seed right now, which is progress from where they’ve been at the last few weeks. Beating Nebraska/MSU in NYC could push them up another line I think.

I guess I didn’t think that “key” is the same as “make or break”, that seems to be a leap that you are making. If UT had lost out, their RPI would have flirted with that 75 cut off (i.e. a Q1 win). Today’s win means that they probably wont even if they lose their last two games. That is why I noted it, don’t really see why that is complicated.

Why do you feel it’s a stretch that we would end up in Detroit if we made it to the big ten championship game? Are you not sure we’d be a top 4 seed or you don’t think they’d reward us as say a 3 or 4 seed?

Michigan would basically have to leapfrog Michigan State and Purdue to get the Detroit pod. I don’t think it is impossible, but it would take a lot. It isn’t that Michigan couldn’t get to a 4, it is that there will be people higher on the S-curve that are also close to Detroit.

A know it all that still comes off a a know it all after saying the team is mediocre and in no way wins more than 11 is a drag in any forum.

I wonder if we can jump Cincy and MSU, Xavier gets sent to Nashville and then Purdue goes to Detroit and we take that last spot? And then some SEC team gets the other Nashville spot?

UC and X seem natural for Nashville. I suspect 2 Big Ten teams in Detroit.

Makes sense wasn’t looking at it all the way thru.
