2016 Wing Recruiting (Ibi Watson)

Yeah, I don’t think Conley is that special. I would easily take Parker, and Williams showed me something in that last round. Rondo? Tough call. Better player, IMO, but his attitude sucks. I’d take Conley.

Scout update on Jefferson (and they finally gave him at least a generic 3 star ranking); reports UM interest. A few highlights of HS film that I’ve already provided display his ability to shoot off the bounce and the rebounding ability as well

I will take Steph Curry…most under rated PG in recent history! All the big D1’s missed on this young man! Love to watch his game…BAM!

Did they take him bowling?

Nope, strip joint. He’ll commit in the AM.

The Duke pic wasn’t misleading, Battle is a legit 6’7-6’8…a bit more attractive as a prospect.

Looks to have longer arms than LeVert (!) But, bowling? Is this par for the course?

No, “par for the course” is golf.

Of course they went bowling, this is Coach B after all! And I mean that in the most positive way. I really hope there are still kids, athletic kids who can PLAY, who appreciate old fashioned values like honesty, integrity, and conducting oneself in a classy kind of way. I don’t know if Tyus will hear everything he “wants” to hear, but I know he’ll hear the truth, and it would be a shame if the truth doesn’t resonate with kids anymore. He certainly looks like an outstanding young man, and I’d love to have him at Michigan! Go Blue, Tyus! Maize and Blue.

Battle is not 6’8.

He is a legit 6’6 and growing. Look at the pic next to LeVert. Now imagine neither of them had hair, they look the exact same height, if anything Caris is a smidge taller. Caris is a legit 6’6. Not 6’7-6’8 regardless of what they list him as.

I’ve been watching a decent amount of the the City Rocks vs. E1T1 matchup with Huerter vs. Maverick Rowan. City Rocks came out on top 82-75

Huerter is the guy that the City Rocks go to when they need stability. He calms everyone down when he has the ball. Never seems to be in a rush and makes some great decisions. He didn’t score a ton when I watched (I watched the first couple of minutes and the last 6 or 7 minutes). Not a great athlete (by most people’s standards), really knows how to change speeds to get by his guy. Isn’t very good laterally on defense but his height and length help him a bit.

Rowan can score but can’t get by anyone with the dribble without traveling. Had 11 straight points at one point on free throws and layups. Really soft touch on the perimeter. Really understands how to play but isn’t the athlete that Huerter is, which is saying a lot. Defense isn’t his forte at all.

In closing, Huerter looks like a better prospect than Rowan. He is more athletic and longer. Rowan is more of a scorer but doesn’t do much else. Now, it’s a one game sample size and the first time I’ve watched Rowan besides a highlight video. Both guys looked around the same height in the 6’4-6’5 range.

Comparisons:

Huerter: Alex Ruoff from WVU or Luke Loucks from FSU
Rowan: Luke Hancock from Louisville (if Rowan passed more) or Michael Roll from UCLA

Just watched the first half of Cumberland/King James vs Jackson Tigers (bad team). I’ll tell you what, Im not big on Cumberland but I that kid can flat out shoot the rock. Jackson came out in a zone for the first 3-4 minutes before Cumberland shot the team out of the zone by himself. He went 4 for 4 from three, and not a single shot touched rim…im talking effortless shots from 24-25 feet with ease. Honestly think he may have range out to 26 feet. 3 were catch and shoot and the other was a off a pump fake, one dribble left and pull-up…splash.

That being said, Cumberland isn’t very adept at changing direction, he had a head full of steam twice going to the rim before a defender simply stepped in front of him and drew a charge. Very much a straight line drive type…didn’t change speed or direction. As previous film reflected, Cumberland keeps his head up in transition and is a good passer. In the half court however, he had 2 lazy passes that were deflected because he had too much air and a bad angle.

He attempted to drive once in the half court set…went by a defender off a poor close out on the right wing and drove baseline…easily blocked on the layup attempt. He’s literally getting 3-4 inches off the ground. No way he can finish in college going up that weak.

Cumberland is an ELITE shooter, but don’t think much of him terms of ball handling or finishing in a half court set. Caveats apply based on sample size of course. Im going to attempt to catch a but more game footage of him and I’ll post if Im able to do so.
