I like Trey but if he’s going to have success I doubt it will be in Utah. Conley after his 2nd year in Memphis has started every game but 1, he’s hitting shots, playing great defense. It’s fine to emphasize where Conley is in the pecking order of western conference guards or overall. At this moment Burke probably isn’t top 20, big year coming up for him though because he was falling out of favor with the Jazz.
Rondo or Williams are NOT better than Conley right now. No way, especially taking into account both sides of the ball. Parker either. He’s close to Lillard when factoring in defense too, but not near as good offensivley. Rose is always hurt. Conley is comfortably in the 8-10 range and in the discussion for 5-7. Memphis is a totally different team with/without him.
Burke will never reach his level because he’s not as blessed as him athletically, not close.
Burke can’t shoot, and he can’t finish in the NBA. Critical year for his career coming up. Without significant improvement, he’s a continuing fringe player struggling to hold on to a spot. Utah has no plans for him to run their team going forward.
I stated on this board when Trey left UM for the NBA that I didn’t think he would be very good in the league and followed up that there are times when it appears he isn’t an NBA level player - and it was met with overwhelming backlash in both instances. At this point, reality is reality…It’s just really hard for a 6’ guy to make it when he needs to pound the ball to be effective, but is a shoot first player that can’t shoot…combined with the fact that he’s a poor defender.
@MattD, you were met with that backlash for the way you presented your argument more so than the content of your argument, saying things like only a true Michigan homer could think Trey was better than MCW (when in fact Trey was drafted higher). Others were also willing to give Trey some more time to adjust to the NBA game before writing him off (and we now have twice as much information on Trey as an NBA player as we did then).

The MCW criticism is fair (even though I don’t know how an NBA GM could think that either)…but in retrospect is it plausible to say that many viewed Trey’s role in the NBA through homer glassees?
Furthermore, I stated that there are times when Trey doesn’t look like an NBA player THIS year…when it was pretty obvious that his transition to the NBA just hasn’t gone so well. Why the backlash there?
2016 Wing Recruiting, anyone?

Dylan - have you always been the guy to break up a fight! Lol

My guess is that it was particular comments and tone that changed it from healthy debate (with some pushback to be expected on a Michigan board) to “overwhelming backlash”, but…wing recruiting.
Dylan, how about you get us started with some updates on Battle’s visit
2016 Wing Recruiting, anyone?
I’m resigned to the fact that it will not be Langford or Battle.

Already posted, but embed is much appreciated.
Dylan - do you get the vibe that Walker is higher on UM than Cumberland?

He seems to be the staffs choice as the fallback plan. I would expect an offer as soon as he visits. Some things to like about his game, but clearly a notch below our desired targets.
Still have my hopes up for Langford or Battle and Goodin or Winston. We’re sorely overdue for a Plan A guy.
Hope they pull out all the stops for Battle’s visit.
Dylan, IF Winston/Battle/Langdord are off the table, my choice is Bruce Brown & Cumberland.
I think Cumberland will score regardless of who is on him, especially in a Beilein offense. I like his game. Plays smart, knows his limitations and is decisive with the ball in his hands.
In terms of Bruce Brown, I want him as a combo G at Michigan. I think in 2016 he can back up Walton in limited minutes at PG while learning how to play the position and also spending some time at the two guard. Seeing as though we will need to recruit another PG due to lack of depth in '17 because Walton will obviously be off of the roster, Brown dosent nessesarly have to be the man running the show for the future if for whatever reason he isn’t able to flourish at running a team. If you land a true PG in '17, Brown can continue in his role as a combo guard/back PG.
Conley is better than Parker, huh? That’s laughable. Let me know when Conley wins a title; Parker has what, four? I’ll agree to disagree on Williams and Rondo, I’d take both.
Burke averaged 13 a game for a team that won what, like 37 games in the West? He needs to improve plenty, but to suggest he “doesn’t look like an NBA player” is way over the top. Again, I’m his first two years, Conley was no better.

Deron Williams is garbage. Prime Tony Parker > Current Mike Conley, but Current Tony Parker < Current Mike Conley
As for Trey, I agree with you that it’s laughable to say he isn’t an NBA player. I think he will play as a back-up PG/6th man off the bench for a decent team if Utah gets rid of him. I watch a lot of his games, and even though he’s averaging 13 a game, his shooting has been abysmal. Something like 37-38% and 33% on 3s. You can’t be a starting PG in the NBA when you’re that inefficient. And this is coming from one of Trey’s biggest fans.
And to keep this post semi-relevant to the thread topic, I don’t like Cumberland or Daniels, but if it comes down to either of the 2, I’d rather have Cumberland over Daniels. In a perfect world, we’d get Battle or Langford.

You would take the 2015 edition of Williams, Rondo, or Parker before Conley? Seriously?
I would take the 2016 versions of Langford or Battle over the 2015 versions of Conley, Parker, Williams, and Rondo. We would get in so much trouble with the NCAA if we used any of the latter group.
