In Beilein's offense, the two guards at the top of the offense are essentially the same, as are the two wings.
Why is the recruiting of the positions completely different then?

He has always wanted a point guard every two years. He did it at WVU and now at UM. First it was Morris, then Burke, and then Walton. I think getting Spike changed things a bit, thus not going after any PGs in the 2015 class. 2016 is imperative for him to get one.
Over the past couple of years it has seemed to me that he wants “2’s” that can also play the “3.” Especially with having Burke/Spike or Walton/Spike on the floor at the same time. He could possibly be treating the 2/3 as the same now. But the 4 is basically the 3 but on the opposite side. I believe he uses the “right side” and “left side” terminology now instead of getting guys specific positions on the wings.
In conclusion, 2-4 should be very similar to each other in their ability. Yes, there will be varying heights and skill sets for each player. Certain players like Chatman could probably play one of the guard spots if necessary and I think he played mostly the “4” when he played this year.
New film of ATLANTA Celtics ((Langford) from yesterday at Adidas Gauntlet in Dallas. They played vs Dennis Smith and co
Langford centric plays don’t really commence until the 1:50 mark
Anybody see any articles anywhere where Langford talks a timeline? It would be great if he is signing this fall. You know he is a guy Duke and Kentucky will recruit hard after their NBA draft departures next spring if he waits that long.
Personally, I like Langford’s game more in relation to Murray. That being said, I think we would all be foolish to think Murray wouldn’t make us a much better team.
If it helps us with any of Battle, Thornton or Langford, I would be more than happy to have Duke and/or Kentucky after Murray.Let’s be realistic - there are plenty of good reasons why Murray probably is not a fit. First, MattD made several posts talking about his selfishness with the ball, and inability to hit the roll man on the pick-and-roll. If our coaches were watching, they were no doubt unimpressed with that. Second, there’s a TON of talk about him wanting to be one-and-done, and while JB doesn’t refuse to recruit potential one-and-done players, I have to wonder about Murray’s fit - we are definitely not recruiting guys who are looking to audition for the NBA above all else. Third, and while it could be a minor point, he plays for a Nike AAU program and for awhile, many expected him to end up at Oregon with Dillon Brooks, his AAU teammate.
I would gladly send him to Duke if it means we get any of Battle, Thornton, or Langford.
I can’t agree more with all this. He doesn’t seem like the type of kid that would fit well at Michigan personality wise, and even as part of a team. He seems way too self involved. I personally hate those kind of people, but my opinion doesn’t matter, it’s JB’s opinion, and he usually doesnt continue to pursue such kids.
I am not saying we should take the high road, and completely dismiss him just because of that, but as LA is saying, if him going to Duke would help our chances with those other guys, I would take that deal in a heartbeat.
JB currently watching E1T1/Maverick Rowan at Boo Williams…notable that Lamonte Turner also plays for E1T1. He’s a 16 PG, and I think that’s why JB is primarily there…don’t think there is much interest in Rowan at this point.
Scott Drew, Bill Self, Johnny Dawkins, John Beilein among head coaches I spot at Pro Skills/E1T1 #EYBL

Really like Bruce Brown’s game. Reminds me of a poor man’s Russel Westbrook.
With Indiana watching, Bruce Brown (@BruceBrown11) had 17 points, 7 rebs, 5 assists for @TheBABC here at EYBL. https://t.co/74tkA7fuS7 #iubb

Bruce Brown does so many things you like to see from a guard: Handles it, scores it, finds teammates, defends. https://t.co/74tkA7fuS7

Any word on if Brown’s going to reclassify? I would think that UCONN would be the favorite regardless of whether he reclassifies or not. Local school and his cousin just signed there this year.
Langford says SOuth Carolina and Georgia Tech are recruiting him the hardest. Previous top 3 was believed to be Florida, Michigan and MSU. Been a weird recruitment for such an elite talent
What ever decision he makes, I certainly hope we keep recruiting him hard. I mean, he previously talked about all the boxes we check…
Notable that no UM presence, while MSU is there.

Maybe we were one of the “others” watching.

Possible…we know the staff watched the Mi Mustangs (Bowen) at 1:10pm, Langford played at 2:25. In fact, the games were played at the same facility p, with the courts being side by side. Would’ve felt better if JB was in person for Langford though
Of note that Langford’s final game of the day tipped off at 7:35pm…hopefully the staff was well represented.
Well, that didn’t take long. JB chose to view Bowen over Langford…surprised. Also of note, Austin Davis (who JB has tracked recently) also plays for the MI Mustangs
John Beilein, Johnny Dawkins and Bruce Pearl along with assistants from Missouri and Michigan St on hand for MBA Hoops vs Michigan Mustangs.

If his grades are in order, I really hope JB gets this kid on campus for a full academic tour and gives him an offer. Just need to cast the net wider the way recruiting is going for 16.

It would be nice if Michigan offered Jefferson and secured his commitment before his recruitment really heats up. I posted an article when Jefferson’s name first came up on this board. It was a player spotlight from his hometown paper, and he listed his favorite team as Michigan. Things change when you are being recruited, but his fandom certainly can’t hurt.
