2016 Wing Recruiting (Ibi Watson)

MattD is the only guy here who positively gloats when Michigan fails with a player. Not cool.

I mean seriously, its getting to the point of absurdity with you…‘positively gloats’…I literally posted a one liner that said things aren’t looking good and this is the response I’m met with.

Guys - please let me know if my initial post about Murray was improper…I’m REALLY curious to hear reaction on this one.

ehhh, you can be pretty contentious at times. But you get over-villanized, especially in a situation like this when someone comes directly at you for no reason. Some posters antagonize you like it’s their job.

I never thought that Murray would end up here. Hate to see him go to State, but Winston might have something to say about that - if he picks MSU. Also, Izzo has had his share of head cases. Murray could be one, judging by some of his comments about being “the man.” But I don’t want to read too much into that. A lot of elite recruits say more or less the same thing.

"I don’t have problems with disagreements, it’s essentially any post by someone who is acting entitled to something the other person isn’t entitled to that bugs me. Superiority and/or any unleashing of neuroses on undeserving strangers bother me personally, which is why I just read for a long time and didn’t think I’d ever register. Being aware that posts can really throw elbows out and keep people from participating may be useful. "

I’ll just say flatly that I find MattD’s posts–really often–extremely negative in tone, especially toward the coaching, and that he tends to so dominate the discourse that you can’t simply ignore his posts and talk issues. But it’s true, as I have also said here, that it ends up being tiresomely repetitive. I know that MattD has basketball knowledge; this keeps me reading his posts. But disparaging players is, to my mind, just not acceptable. And asserting that you’re right because of your superior knowledge. . . or that being arrogant is okay, then not being able to take what you relentlessly dish out. . .

I just had a little one-week break after a big job and have been relaxing here, but will refrain from further contentiousness.

Seriously, just let it go…we all moved on from it and have since moved back on topic, myself included.

Would Murray be your guys number one choice out of the guys we are recruiting for both pg and wing? Who would you have higher if anyone?

For me I like Langford a ton and he’d be my number one. I think you get him and fill in a distributing pg with what we already have and that’s a nice lineup for the future.

Also not counting Brown in this.

Not counting Brown, its Langford by a long shot for me

I’m all in for Langford as well.

If Murray wants to run the point, and we want him there too, then frankly, I’d be happy to split Winston and Murray with State, regardless of who gets who.

Could be wrong, but I seem to remember Murray saying we are recruiting him as more of an off ball player

Hey guys - first time posting despite reading almost every post on this forum for the past year. (Figured I’d finally chime in)

In my opinion - from a halfcourt JB offense perspective only - do you feel the PG position is a little overrated? Just seems that whether you are a 1, 2, or 3 in this offense - as long as you have handles and a quick first step for PnR situations - you can really excel. I’m not saying we don’t want a top-tier PG, but I do think we could survive without one so long as we had one top-tier player for late shot-clock situations, etc.

I’ve been kind of wondering the same thing, and in particular because it sounds like telling Battle he could run the 1 here would be huge in his recruitment. IF what you are saying is true (and I’ve had similar musings), then we need to be using that with Battle.

You definitely need top flight ball handlers…but Trey proves you certainly don’t need a pass-first PG, and even Walton has played as much off the ball as on it over the past two years.

The label on the position is meaningless to me. Provided you have a player like Langford that can break a defender down off the dribble in Isolation sets and create for teammates in PnR, then it doesn’t matter to me whether the guy is a 1, 2, or 3. The question is whether Murray has that skillset? In my opinion, I don’t think Murray is that guy, but it is close as he does show some ability to do those things. I certainly think Langford can do it, but not Battle.

In Beilein’s offense, the two guards at the top of the offense are essentially the same, as are the two wings.

While I agree that the one and two are very interchangeable on the offensive side of things, we do need at least one of the two to have the quickness to guard opposing point guards and one with a bit more size to guard bigger guards. Ultimately, I think that is the only differentiating factor between the guard spots.

I think we can pretty much wipe Murray off our list based on the context of his interviews.........wants to be the man instantly, and I also think the Murray camp thinks he's one and done.

His camp has ALWAYS believed he’s a one and done, whether correctly or not. They have often expressed their desire to find the quickest way to get to the League, hence the reclassification chatter. Kid can definately play, but at this point he is still all about the Murray.

UK offered Langford’s AAU teammante. Let’s hope their pursuit of ATL Celtics ends there

Elite guard Kobi Simmons picked up a scholarship offer from Kentucky today. I'd bet they'll be a factor in that one.

Langford noted as one of the top performers in Adidas Gauntlet. Report pretty much echoes my logic for liking him so much.............he's good at many things. Josh Langford, SG, Atlanta Celtics: It had been a while since Scout evaluated Langford and he's certainly done nothing but improve over the last several months. The versatile athlete is a wing that impacts the game in numerous ways and the biggest progression in his game has been with his jumper. Langford can hit shots, get to the basket, defends multiple positions and passes very well.

Reading through the link, I am still pretty surprised JB didn’t really recruit Kyle Guy. Seems like a classic Beilein guard.

Couldn’t agree more, I was really pushing him when it appeared we may have interest. The kid could shoot off the bounce or catch and shoot, a good athlete, with a quick release.

Junior year highlight film of Frankie Hughes. Primarily a catch and shoot type, but man that kids jumpshot is pretty…his balance is superb. Really reminds me of THJ in HS. Reports that he struggled at Boo Williams/EYBL
