Agree...I want to like this board but it's hard to because many of these threads get ruined guys trying to prove how smart they are vs just trying to engage in useful, interesting conversation.
Having opinions is one thing…but the chest beating, sniping and guys looking for props is so very juvenile and boring, quite frankly.
I can see this is quickly turning into the we can’t stand MattD thread from a select few.
Ill say this and leave it alone - if some don’t like chest beating stop being overly optimistic/homerish when the film clearly dictates otherwise. Reality is that anything UM touches, a good portion of people here always think its good…and sometimes that’s just not realistic.
My definition of boring is just rubber stamping whatever the staff does. Have your own mind. Last, I like to engage in what I call ‘educated barber shop’ talk, where everything doesn’t have to be so damn politically correct. I seen a guy get massacred in another thread for calling Donnal a dud…lets keep it real here people, that’s pretty much the truth as it stands now. Stop it with this ‘lets be nice and give everyone the benefit of the doubt’ nonsense. Truth is, some kids just can’t play and there’s nothing wrong with essentially calling a guy a ‘bum’ in my view. We’re here to talk ball not be friends of the players. Just be brutally honest
I’ve been a long time reader of this board for over a year now just recently signed up to contribute and throw some questions at you guys since you follow the recruiting way closer than I do but these personal attacks and people trying to outdo or overdo the next is truly ruining it. None of us on here besides Dylan gets “paid” for this. Even the people that get paid for this are way off sometimes, coaches included. So clearly there’s many viewpoints and accept them for what they are views and opinions not attacks at people. Agree to disagree.

Totally agree. I go on the forums for interesting discussion and recruiting news that is Michigan specific. There’s too many egos on this site. Like seriously MattD, I’m half your age, but no one would know it based off of the petty arguments you constantly get into. I’m not gonna stop visiting but for the people who want to argue, if you’re not going to add value, why post at all?
Did you come on the board and give credit to those who believed in DJ Wilson when he made his Jump?
Jefferson from unranked to high 3 star/#120 overall on Rivals updated 16 rankings. For those that essentially say im a poor evaluator of talent - a small bit of credit please? I viewed this kids film when he wasn't ranked by any of the sites and was firm in my opinion that he is a legit talent. He's still underranked at 120. Should be about 50 spots north.
Nope, because I never labeled anyone a bad evaluator, I simply disagreed. By the way, I was right about Wilson. WAY overrated by Rivals (go figure) and Scout.
First, it’s way too premature to say that he was way overrated. He was injured basically all season. Granted, he didn’t look good when he played, but the sample size is way too small. It isn’t as if he was a top-20 recruit–you’d expect that type of a player to produce immediately.
If Wilson develops into a major contributor (starter or 6th man) on a couple of sweet-16 type tournament teams, I’d say he played to his rankings.
Just out of curiosity, would you ultimately conclude Adreian Payne was overrated out of high school? He was a top-20 recruit that looked awful for 2 years. What about D-Mo? He, too, played poorly in his first year.
Second, who comes on here to pat themselves on the back and ask for recognition? What an odd thing to do. I said that Jolly Pumpkin should be banned (and he was), but I am not seeking validation for my evaluation of ban-ability.
Who comes here to pat themselves on the back? Me, that’s who. I told everyone explicitly that I have the utmost admiration for those people that are great at what they do, arrogant as hell, will let you know about, and just don’t give a f#ck (IE Kobe).
That being said, I would never dream of doing that if it wasn’t for all the flack I took over my eval of Wilson…there were literally several people on this board confident in the fact that he was a 2 and done and labeling me as an ‘idiot’ or ‘hater’. Fast forward a year or so later, and Im not looking all that foolish.
Point is, Im pretty confident in my evals. And in retrospect, Im sure some around here would concede they looked at Wilson’s film with their homer shades on. I was very adamant at the time that Grantham should’ve been a 70-90 type player whereas DJ was way over ranked at #67, and that we needed Grantham’s skillset much more than DJ. I’ll be honest, I was absolutely correct and Im not going to apologize about it. If anything, Im owed the apology for the dozens of insults I took for doing nothing more than being objective.
I think you take this stuff a little too seriously. This is an anonymous message board, and you are pretty abrasive. You are going to take some flak.
Also, you cannot yet say that you were “absolutely correct” about DJ Wilson, unless you are willing to concede that 15th pick in the draft Adreian Payne, and 2-and-done Darius Morris were overrated coming out of high school. It is still possible for Wilson to live up to his ranking. Is the #67 high school senior expected to make an instant impact?
Also, don’t you see any issues with using the Rivals ranking of Jefferson as validation for your evaluation of him, while simultaneously discrediting the Rivals ranking of Wilson? There is a logical disconnect there.

Murray portion of the article quoted below. Based on this context, it seems very simple to me. If Murray reclassifies (which he most likely will), he’s not coming here unless Caris declares. The guy wants to run the show, period.
'Fairly quiet in the first two days, Jamal Murray came alive today, showcasing his extremely impressive skill-level that has him ranked as one of the top guard prospects in the 2016 high school class. Murray is clearly more comfortable at this stage with the ball in his hands, as he tends to get quiet and somewhat passive when he isn’t the focal point of the action. Playing a heavy ball-handling role, Murray made some slick passes out of the pick and roll, a beautiful turnaround jumper in the post, and a series of gorgeous floaters from the free throw line area. He capped that off with an open 3-pointer and even hit a miracle half-court buzzer-beater to finish off the scrimmage, putting an exclamation point on what was a terrific all-around performance.
While not an exceptional athlete, Murray is extremely smooth and does a terrific job of playing at different speeds, relying more on his high skill-level and strong feel for the game. He shows the ability to make some creative passes, and is relatively active and competitive on defense, which helps considering he doesn’t have tremendous length with his 6-7 wingspan and especially his 8-2 ½ standing reach, relatively average for either guard spot. Talking to Murray, he had absolutely zero interest in discussing the topic of which class he will end up in, instead preferring to thoughtfully talk about a variety of issues revolving around Canadian basketball, the path he’s taking as somewhat of a trendsetter in his home country, and his own personal growth as a player. We will release that interview in the coming days.’
'Murray wants a coach that "wants and needs me, and will give me an opportunity to shine and give me space". In other words give me the ball and get the hell out of my way...........that is the pitch that most elite recruits want in my opinion.'
So are you for or against recruiting this kind of kid? I’m against it. Not likely to fit in a system that’s all about sharing the ball. Highly flexible, btw.
I’m all for it. Just because you want your ass kissed doesn’t necessarily translate to a bad fit on the court. Personality and skill are fit are very different. Based on your posts I’d assume you’re not a big Kobe fan - if you were a coach would you turn him away…exactly. You kiss ass and make the team better because that’s your job

MattD is the only guy here who positively gloats when Michigan fails with a player. Not cool.
I mean seriously, its getting to the point of absurdity with you…‘positively gloats’…I literally posted a one liner that said things aren’t looking good and this is the response I’m met with.
Guys - please let me know if my initial post about Murray was improper…I’m REALLY curious to hear reaction on this one.
I agree with MattD on the Murray stuff. If he reclassifies to 2015 then obviously he’s not coming here. Even as a 2016 recruit I think our chances are slim at best.
