2016 Wing Recruiting (Ibi Watson)

Jefferson made the Indiana Junior All Star Team. Looks like IU is starting to show interest. If Jefferson has his academics in order, its only a matter of time before he has high major offers from all over the country

Tyus Battle sets official

Wow. That’s good news. First official visit for him, correct? Question of the year: Who would you rather have, Battle or Langford? MattD, you can’t answer, we know you want Langford. Another question, do they have room for both, if that’s an option? That can definitely play on opposite sides and/or play on one of the two guard spots.

If I had my pick, I’d take Langford, but I also would love Tyus in the fold. I also think there would be the possibility to take both if they were both interested.

I’d rather have Langford. He seems to be much more versatile and, to me, just looks more impressive overall. Getting both would be amazing, of course.

So much for UK not being in his final 7…let’s face it UK pretty much gets whoever they want, and leave the others to fight for their seconds.

Tyus Battle (http://t.co/CW6wurqxFV) has set up visits to Duke (April 17) & Louisville (April 19). Also Kentucky has been added to his list.

Why don’t we just tell Daddy Battle that Tyus can get a shot at PG, then if/when Walton, Spike, and MAAR beat him out for minutes put him at SG and see if he complains about getting minutes? It’s what the other schools will do, it’s what our football coaches do, and it’s not looking like there’s a great 2016 PG we’re going to land anyways, so let’s just upgrade talent if we can. If Battle is unhappy at SG wants to eat up a year transferring, so be it, I’ll take that risk.

Murray wants a coach that “wants and needs me, and will give me an opportunity to shine and give me space”. In other words give me the ball and get the hell out of my way…that is the pitch that most elite recruits want in my opinion. I just don’t think most elite HS kids care about development because they think they are better than most of the personnel currently on college rosters.

Looks like Jefferson is off to a great AAU start.

Damien Jefferson of 17U SYF one of top 2015s in Indiana. Impressive start on Friday.

Not looking good on the Murray front based on the context of recent interviews/articles.

I think he’s realized that pretty much everyone he is considering is not going to give him the opportunity to be “the man” right away. Michigan - Caris, Walton, Spike, MAAR are not pushovers for playing time and even Irvin became a semi-capable ball handler in the halfcourt. Murray would be on the wing with us. MSU doesn’t have the logjam of PG types that we do, but they do have some decent depth in the backcourt. If Murray wants an opportunity to come in and shine right away, waiting another year is the best move. And we will have an opening for him for immediate contribution with the ball in his hand. Hopefully we can get back into it.

Holy cow, a bunch of new names I haven’t seen before. Welcome to the forum, folks. Even with the arguments, this is, hands down, the best place to get Michigan basketball info and discussion.

Well, I think the difference is that Grantham was viewed by many as a polished product entering college (and if I recall he’s old for his grade), whereas Chatman clearly is not. But yeah, Chatman had a rough year - he could still turn out to be very good (as could Grantham) but it’s far from a sure thing.

But I do love the way you can’t help but be rude and condescending to what I thought was a fairly polite post. If only other people shared your lofty opinion of yourself.

Matt - I think it's way too early to draw any conclusions about Wilson. The guy was literally injured all year, and during the Italy trip, when the freshmen got valuable time to learn the offense. Also, Grantham averaged like 9/4 this year and last I looked, he was shooting about .430 from the floor, which is awful for a 6-8 guy. I'm not sure his ceiling is very high.

I agree with you on Jefferson - very interesting guy and you did in fact have very good things to say about him (I never disagreed, and I don’t remember anyone else who did either, but that’s beside the point).

On the whole, while we don’t agree often, I don’t take it personally and I do appreciate your updates on various recruits, which is useful information.

I think you realize at this point I rarely respond to you, but I just couldn’t resist this time. This is the exact type of thing Im talking about…you claim Grantham was ‘awful’ from the floor and you ‘aren’t sure his ceiling is very high’…so I presume Chtaman is an absolute bum in your view, correct?

This constant bantering really needs to stop. Matt I really appreciate all the info you bring into this forum, but sometimes you gotta scale it back a bit with the negativity. I agree that not everything needs to be PC and homerish, but you’ve sorta turned yourself into a villain.

Everyone else, let’s keep these arguments civil. It’s ok to have different opinions but let’s leave out the personal attacks. Take a step back and remember that we’re all Michigan fans and in the end we all want the same thing

Murray update to Scout - doesn’t mention UM among schools involved.

This thread will probably end up getting split–I’ll quickly say just a little. I don’t have an issue with anything earlier in this thread–I’m not making an anti-Matt D post at all. But I think that this forum does have an issue with people attacking others.

What I mean is the kind of disagreement that involves
a. grossly misrepresenting the person’s argument
b. attributing bad motives to the person making the post
c. appointing oneself almighty protector of Michigan basketball.

I think being nice and giving everyone the doubt is the only thing that will keep the
forum from being composed of 8 people, meaning the same old narratives being
re-hashed, really small whirlwind personal battles between the same people.
I don’t have problems with disagreements, it’s essentially any post by someone who is acting entitled to something the other person isn’t entitled to that bugs me. Superiority and/or any unleashing of neuroses on undeserving strangers bother me personally, which is why I just read for a long time and didn’t think I’d ever register. Being aware that posts can really throw elbows out and keep people from participating may be useful.
