2016 Point Guard Recruiting (Xavier Simpson)

Dont insult that Kids game comparing him to Stu Doglass, Sheesh. Each of our last 3 Walk ons are on par or BETTER than Stu Douglass!
Guy isn't the best ballhandler, but does have nice court vision/passing. Film does reflect he has the ability to run PnR. Quick release, range up to 25 feet. Slightly above average vertically, looks to be an average athlete in all other respects.

Stu Douglass!

That’s pretty harsh. And untrue. Not even worth arguing with you about it.

Stu was definitely a solid player as an upperclassmen. Should’ve made an all B1G defensive team his last year in my opinion. Also, had a clutch gene. But I do see Guy as a better athletic version of him as well. Could be a much more dynamic scorer because of that. Might be a better handler at the same stage of development as creating for more than one or two dribbles wasn’t something Stu did too much of in high school. Plain and simple, team was better with him on court all 4 years he played. Did a little of everything. Was a pleasure watching the improvement year to year from him and Zack and the guts they played with night in night out. Those MSU games is what they will be remembered for in my opinion. The game at Breslin at 1-6, they were both huge in.

Stu Douglass!

Funny you mention that - had the same problem at UM, taking shots from 23-26 feet rather than 22. I think Stu was a much better shooter in relation to what his % was. Personally I think Stu is the most under appreciated UM player in recent memory. Not great at anything, but such a versatile player on both ends. Would love to have a player like that on the current team

Made himself into a pretty good defensive player as a junior/senior.

Agreed - don't put a lot of stock into the visit (or reported lack thereof) schedule, but the quote regarding the package deal is a direct quote, which kind of reinforces what I've thought.............this probably isn't a package deal so much as DT's dad just talking up Tyus and their friendship and being a friendly guy in general. Package deals rarely occur, especially when Tyus has explicitly expressed interest in running PG, that would seem to conflict with DT's best interest.

AGREE. Package deal is very very rare, and I won’t put any money into such talks anyway.

More explosive then Stu and better court vision from what I can see of the limited film available. Better shooter than Stu off the bounce in relation to Stu as an underclassmen. As a junior-senior, Stu did develop the ability to shoot off the bounce - that lovely FT line stepback @MSU still gives me the greatest of pleasures

Guy is quicker, but Stu could shoot off the bounce in this video. Stu only shot high 30s on threes in HS, but you can see why when you see how deep he shot from.

I like Guy too. Like his shot, athleticism. Does a lot of what Coleman does. Really hope he starts adding some lb’s soon though.

Stu Douglass!

Kyle Guy gets 2 crystallballs to UM. Wonder what is up with that?

Big fan of Guy - quick release and shoot off the bounce

DT with regard to Battle - “not like its a sure package deal”. Also interesting that DT doesn’t have any visits lined up in the future - I was under the impression that he was visiting UM for the PSU football game (Oct. 11) and UK on 10/31

His dad, IIRC, had said that he would visit Michigan this fall for a game (can’t remember if there was a particular game), and UK for their version of midnight madness. Not sure if anything changed or the Thorntons just have made the arrangements yet.

Zag isn’t the most official source.

Any team would love to have both, but this is just “Gee, it would be cool to play together” as opposed to any active plan to make it happen.

Winston was at MSU’s game tonight, as well.
