Only caught a snippet of the recruiting roundup on Webb’s show this morning, but it sounded as if Thornton has DROPPED M from his consideration going forward. Anyone hear all of it?

Where does it say anything about him dropping Michigan? Were still #3 in his crystal ball.

Sure, we’re number 3 on his list, but UM hasn’t had a pick since May…bottom line is that we are not trending well with DT…at all.
At this point DTJR is not a realistic option for M. Believe it or not.
Of our outstanding PG offers, it seems like it’s Winston or bust. MSU people seem pretty confident that he’s heading there. I’ve seen a few random U of M posters claim that the in-state schools are in a dead heat. I don’t know what to think, but I really hope we can land him. I just don’t think the other offered PG targets are seriously considering us.

I think Ramsey would’ve considered us more seriously if A) we were having a better season B) we showed more interest (meaning it was pretty obvious DT was the #1 option) C) we played a tempo that he preferred
I’ll be disappointed if we don’t land one of our top PG targets. Early on, it seemed like a virtual lock for Michigan to land a top tier PG.
MAAR looks to be extremely good at getting to rim, but I’m not sure he will be the facilitator we’d need him to be when Walton is gone. If we don’t land a facilities PG, we desperately need to land a wing that can run the offense when needed (think: Stauskas / LeVert). It doesn’t pay to have a bunch of catch and shoot players without a PG that gets them looks.

Hail - I’m actually pretty high on MAAR, his frame and athletic ability remind me of Tim Frazier (PSU). As you say, he is more of a score first guard at this point, but that is his current role. Perhaps he can become a distributor in the future, and I think he has the potential to do so. I think he is going to be a really good 2 way player for us in the future. I’m still sticking with my All B10 prediction for him as an upperclassmen

You keep mentioning the effect of not having a better season on recruits and I don’t see any evidence to that effect. We certainly did not see a recruiting bump in our favor when we played well so why would we see a drop for having a down (but not disasterous) year? Most of his crystal ball picks are for USC who has been horrible in hoops for ever, and he has visited Penn State. Sorry, but that does not fit your narrative at all.

What narrative? Lol.
It’s quite simple - having a great season may not produce recruiting results or improved recruiting, but a mediocre/disappointing season can have an adverse impact.
In other words, on court success and recruiting don’t always translate to a linear progression. A mediocre season may hurt while a great season may maintain the status quo.

Small sample size, but I’m genuinely optimistic about MAAR. Can’t teach speed or toughness and he has both. In this age of college BB an attacking, speedy PG who can finish is always valuable.

Couldn’t agree more. Generally speaking, that is the type of PG that dominates the league these days. Russell Westbrook is the prime example…very low on skill, but his athleticism and toughness basically make him the best 2 way player in the NBA.
I’ll bite. Better two way player than Lebron or AD?

In my opinion, no brainer on Lebron comparison (he has declined noticeably on defense, on offense the decline is more marginal). AD is a bit closer, but I’ll take Westbrook because he never takes plays off. Not saying that AD doesn’t play hard, but I don’t think he imposes his will on every play of the game to the extent Westbrook does. That guy is the definition of a dog
