2015 Guard and Wing Recruiting (PJ Dozier, etc.)

If Esa Ahmad has “Nike” in his Twitter handle, is there even the remotest possibility he would choose an adidas school?

I have a really bad feeling that the Eron Harris fiasco is going to haunt us…badly

Dylan - any insight on our interest with Kyle Guy? Im a fan of his game and would really like us to give him a decent look.

He’s a 2016 guy… There’s interest there and they’ve been in contact (Guy camped at Michigan), but haven’t heard much talk about it accelerating yet.

Which one would you say it is at this point:

(A) let’s see if the kid grows a few inches first

(B) he’s on the radar, but in the second tier behind Battle, Murray, etc

Wouldn’t take to serious since it is a forum post but

I have a buddy who's well connected in the Indiana HS scene - He told me Lyle had a 1.3 GPA (seriously) before he went to prep school. I know prep schools can do wonders for qualifying, but that's a massive improvement to make in 1 year. He told me the GPA combined with fighting teammates was enough to make a lot of schools (like IL) back off.

Also, he tells me word is Jalen Coleman still prefers Michigan, and that hasn’t changed.

MattD, curious about your comment on Eron Harris.

Do you mean that he will hurt us on the court, or the fiasco will hurt us in recruiting? If the later, does Eron Harris or his “friends” have heavy influence over some of our current recruits?

Meant it from the standpoint of not getting Harris (despite the seemingly perfect fit) appears as if it will haunt our roster moving forward, as we desperately need a legit wing to replace Caris next year, and our prospects of landing an upper tier 2015 wing seem to be dwindling by the day. Don’t think a combination of MAAR/Robinson/Dawkins can replace the playmaking/shooting of Caris - those guys are not true SGs. That leaves us VERY THIN in terms of backcourt talent. Harris would’ve been perfect to bridge the gap…only would’ve played 2 years, kept us highly competitive, and not scare off 16 recruits because they would only have to sit a year. Like I said in the other thread, these decisions now are the foundation for 16. Can you imagine what our backcourt would look like in 16-17 if Walton/Irvin leave, or even 1 of them, and no DTJ? That is a scary proposition for a backcourt centric team.

Totally agree that Eron Harris would’ve be a perfect fit on many perspectives but unfortunately Beilein has concerns that are legitimate too. Hopefully we could get Coleman but Chatman could be in the creative role.

I know we had discussed some interest w/r/t Shake Milton, but think that one is moving in opposite directions. Milton set to take officials to Oklahoma, SMU, Indiana, Illinois.

Well here’s some 2015 news… Sounds like PJ Dozier may visit.

Finally some good news!

Yup, excited to hear this. I will now start familiarizing myself with his game. Seems like UNC is the overwhelming crystal ball favorite for right now, but an official visit certainly can help.

Confirmed on Twitter by PJ himself.

Probably not many better Caris LeVert replacements out there than Dozier. Big, skilled, athletic. Would be a great fit.

His father, uncle and sister all played for South Carolina but have read he might want his own path and plus USC has been bad for awhile now.

UNC is the fave by experts but scandal and corruption has made Roy less successful on the recruiting trail. Plus I don’t think the experts are locked in since OSU, KU, UK and IU were listed way more than UM.

UL and GU are selling him as a PG. UM is probably showing footage of Manny, Nik, Caris and Tim. Either way, a player many of us thought was off the board has UM in his final 5.

Hopefully Jalen Coleman and Prince Ali announce dates soon, too.

Regardless of what happens with Duncan Robinson, I’m growing more convinced the 2015 class will be a minimum of 2. If Robinson is one, then it would seem a wing guard who may be capable of playing point in a real pinch seems like the second slot (Coleman, Dozier, etc.). At least that’s the impression I’m getting.

I think they’ll look to take the right guys, but there’s room there. There’s two available on paper and it’s pretty easy to do the math and have that number grow to four. I would be shocked if they took four – too many great prospects in '16 – but I also don’t think it will be just a one man class.

Dozier has more upside than any 15 wing on our board other than Ali. Didn’t think had any chance at all until now. Chances still slim in my view, BUT once you get on campus anything can happen

I consider Robinson 2014. A wing and maybe a center is ideal for 2015…bank the rest, assuming Irvin and Walton don’t blow up.
