He may very well land in SC, though putting the weather ahead of his NBA prospects (which are virtually certain to be better if he comes here) seems a little silly. In that case, we’ll have to seriously consider our other options at PG for 2015.
Moral of the story is this - what we think is reasonable/logical in terms of NBA prospects/style, etc. is just that…what we think. The recruiting process is very subjective, and it is an individualzed inquiry for each recruit/family. Each family prioritizes different factors and accords each factor various weight.
Certainly he and his family may not see things the way we do as biased Michigan fans, and it’s fair to say that he may not do as well on the court if he’s unhappy with where he is. But all other things being equal, what disinterested observer would look at the coaching, recent performance, and current national profile of both schools and say that his NBA prospects would be better if he went to SC instead of Michigan?

I think you’re going wrong by assuming that NBA prospects are what Dozier and his family consider to be the primary factor. Distance, style of play, family ties, etc. may all be things more relevant in that recruitment. Once again, we think NBA prospects should be the factor, but it may not be so for Dozier. Or alternatively, the Dozier camp may simply feel as though SC is in a better position to place PJ in the NBA at this particular point, as opposed to looking at it through a retrospective approach.
The family ties thing should not be pushed by the family members, it should be purely PJ’s choice. As many here are saying, I don’t think if there were zero family ties in this situation that PJ’s parents would be touting SC as the best place for him with respect to both sports and athletics. I can understand as the child maybe getting the idea that you want to carry on the family legacy. In this case, I definitely see NBA potential with this kid and if that’s what he wants to do he should be put in the best position to reach that goal, with solid academics as a backup. Michigan stacks up pretty well if he wants to win, develop, and is academically inclined. Hopefully, the comfort with the campus, teammates and staff are there too.
Some families have HUGE ties to certain schools. I don’t know if the Dozier’s do to SC but you can’t discount that with certain families. There are times when kids make the decision and it just doesn’t make sense in terms of academics, athletic development, etc. If this was the case then the Ivy Leagues would be loaded every year along with Duke, Stanford, and Northwestern. Obviously, UM is a GREAT school but isn’t considered on par with those schools academically as far as reputation is concerned.
17-22 year old kids/young adults make some of the worst and craziest decisions of their lives during this time. I’m sure most of us on this board made a lot of mistakes during this time.
Dozier plans to announce Saturday… http://www.umhoops.com/2014/11/02/report-pj-dozier-plans-announce-college-decision-saturday/
South Carolina and Louisville are still trending here.
I know some are getting their hopes up with regard to Dozier based on the comments on the front page story. There are rumors that Dozier has a top 3 that doesn’t include UM…take that how you want
I don’t hold my hope too high. It is hard to pull a kid from south up to Michigan.
I’ll say this…I’m not holding my breath on Dozier, I fully expect him to go to SC AS I’ve been prediciting for the past few months. That being said, hopefully this is what I label “the Chatman exception”
Decision date hasn’t been finalized per Evan Daniels. From the context of this article, it sounds like an SC/UL battle.
Based on the comments from Dozier’s father in that article, it seems like Michigan is on the wayyy outside looking in. Hopefully we’re wrong.

I’ve been trying to hint at that for months…but people insist I’m a troll or just being negative.
I’ve heard a different top 2, one that didn’t include South Carolina. I guess we will see where things land. Will keep fingers crossed, but not going to get hopes up.
Update - Dozier no longer considering UM, down to SC/UL/GU as I stated above
Update 2 - Rivals pretty much confirms UM is out of the mix. I’m sticking by my guns, he’s headed to SC
JB and co. are still going to make an in-home visit though, no? Not saying that I’m holding much hope for his commitment as it seems very unlikely at this point, but until anything is set in stone, I’ll patiently wait for Saturday.
Again, I’m hoping the “Chatman exception” applies
Hope for the best, expect the worst.
Hope for the best, expect the worst.
I can agree with that.
