Dylan, I know that Dusty commented about Sam not playing due to family reasons but did anyone confirm he was on the bench? I honestly wasn’t paying attention.
Going to need a reupload on the May video. It’s stuck in processing mode I think.
Should be working now.
Michigan is in first place, alone in first place.
The thing that struck me here is Dusty’s emotional intelligence.
He is very intentional to highlight the contributions of guys going through some “playing time issues” (Gayle, Cason), something guys in a situation like that I think need to hear. Similar to the “Tschetter and Gayle are basically starters” comment
Also struck by Rubin’s comment that due to the Purdue crowd at Mackey “every basket they scored felt like six points”
one thing i loved is that they asked him about “you got vlad mad and he started playing better after you challenged” and he immediately answers (paraphrasing) “I don’t deserve any credit for vlad playing better, that’s all him.” i don’t think many coaches would explicitly say the opposite - that they deserve credit for when their players play well - but i think a lot of them would think it or obliquely reference it, and few would go out of their way to give all the credit to the player
but i also don’t watch many coaching pressers, so i might be wrong!
Dusty May is a good person whereas Tom Izzo is a bad person
Yep, he’s extremely intentional with this stuff and really thinks about it. When he did interviews about what went wrong at FAU last year, he doesn’t talk about lineups or schemes or something, he talks about how their messaging wasn’t quite right.
When he talks about breakthroughs the previous year, he talks about messaging wins and when he thought the team bought in.
i don’t know if i’ve ever heard rubin talk and since he’s a transfer there’s more talk of his previous school than of his hometown and so upon clicking this video i was like “oh, right, texas”
