The State of UM Basketball

It’s going to be very difficult. And if we play anything close to like we did against OSU and MSU, then there’s absolutely no chance. Will probably need to go 2-1 at home, then 3-2 on the road. That’s minimum. We’d have to win at least one in the conference tournament as well and need Marquette and SMU to finish strong.

It’s not just a disappointing season. It’s now three in a row. But I agree I doubt he gets fired this year. Unfortunately I don’t see next year being much better.

Agreed. And he needs to be proactive in weeding out the roster if guys can’t play, including Watson and Simpson. Not ready to write off either guy just yet, but a year from now, we’ll know one way or another.

I do blame the players as the hustle for rebounds is beyond poor. The effort is truly pathetic. I get they are coached to get back and things like that but my god, they all try to slap the ball instead of using two hands to grab it. Why is our pg the only player who can use both of his hands to grab rebounds? Didn’t we bring in Washington to coach the bigs? The hell is going on there?

We have four freshman and not one of them can play more than 5 minutes. What the hell did we get these guys for if we NEVER put them in the game. Yet we run Donnal out there who has been awful for 4 years. Few good games but my lord does he need to stay seated during games.

Why didn’t we just redshirt Watson and teske? This year has been beyond a waste for both of them. It’s so frustrating we offer kids to come here so they can sit while seniors are on the court doing absolutely nothing.

What is starting to bother me is that the CASUAL fan can even see adjustments that need to be made on-court, with the roster and with the general culture/philosophy/system before the staff.

Why they don’t play teske more with the foul trouble issues is beyond me. He’s shown he can play d and rebound. He should be getting 5-10 a game particularly when the fouls pile up

The extent of “qualifying excuses” for why we played so poorly is really getting old.

Who knows what to expect tonight. We’ve attempted 61 threes in our last two games. Very interested to see what JB does to counterattack how MSU suffocated the perimeter in the last game.

Well that was fun

Two weeks ago, we were told that “Michigan wasn’t good enough to beat anybody by 20 points.”

We beat Indiana by 30 and MSU by 29. For as much chest thumping that goes on here, it would be nice if people that were so demonstrably wrong could own it.

Yea this team is the biggest tease ever. I stand by they have greatly underachieved this year. They have great potential to be a dominant offensive team. Wagner and Wilson have to stay on the floor. They also need touches. When Wagner gets a lot of touches it really opens up everything. Glad to see maar play confident / aggressive and attack. If he somehow wakes up and gets his confidence back and can give us what he was late last year then this team can get on a run.

I hate to say it again and keep beating on the guy but I think our offense works better with less Irvin. More touches for Wilson/ Moe and d Walt and I feel like our offense looks better.

I really hope we can somehow bring that energy and hustle down the stretch. I can’t see us losing to most of the big ten when they play hard. Odds are though bad inconsistent Michigan will rear its ugly head soon. Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio st, Iowa losses were so frustrating. Imagine if they just played that tough and hard. Could have had a great record. This should have been a top 20 team.

This feels great. Honestly great. I’m going to not look ahead on the calendar and soak in this one. Esp amazing with Zak being basically invisible (on O)

I think “THE STATE OF UM BASKETBALL” will be determined on how much of this carries over to Assembly Hall, and against a top 10 Wisc team (and from then on). There is more data to suggest inconsistency from here, but as always will keep the fingers crossed that we can take that next step and elevate our floor because if we play like this/IU on our back 5 road games it is going to be a strong finish.

This team is certainly good enough talent wise to do that. That seemed like a statement out of frustration from whomever said it,

That said I don’t remember a team that was more two faced in recent memory. This team is all or nothing. I think the short bench was part of the problem, really wish we had Aubrey or even kam this year. I think they could have really helped.

This teams issue is they aren’t mentally tough enough to win the close games or to over come adversity when things are going bad. Bad calls, foul trouble, shooting cold ect. If they even buckled down and won half of their close games our record would be very good. They’ve only been outclassed a few times. It’s been mostly close losses where we had our chance and blew it. I’d hate to play us if they ever come together and get on the same page for more then a game at a time,

That’s why it was a stupid thing to say. This team is capable of losing ugly when we are off but capable of winning big if shots are falling. SMU is a top 25 team and we beat them by 22. Saying that we aren’t good enough to beat any Big Ten team by 20 is just dumb.

And Wagner was asking for it, I guess. Lol.
