I’d like to see us shift over into a 2-3 or similar when Teske is in. Sort of a special package that we can pull out when needed. Has to be better than throwing Donnal to the wolves down low.
I think it’s funny. I’ve never seen a forum that sees a team they support so differently. We all took different people away from that statement and all seem to have very different views of the guys on the roster and who the problems are.
Anyone heard of any recruits visiting today?
Michigan with a double digit win.

Well. Single digit win.
I don’t think wins against Nebraska and Illinois are gonna move the needle for people. If you didn’t win those games, your season is over. If we beat Indiana next game, you’ll start to see a little more positivity.
I was at work. Stopped watching when we were up 15 with 60 seconds to go. Didn’t know Illinois scored some garbage time points.
The middle of the Big Ten is a crap shoot and any win is a good win. Especially so when Michigan controlled the game start to finish and showed something they have sorely been lacking all season (the ability to defend).
Illinois 10 days ago
85 points
34 of 53 (64.2%)
9 of 14 from three (64.3%)
11 turnovers
Illinois Today
57 points
22 of 48 (45.8%)
2 of 12 from three(16.7%)
17 turnovers
Pretty nice improvement, no? I’ll give credit where credit is due.
Glad we shut down Morgan too. That schmuck ran his mouth and didn’t do anything today to back it up.
I guess I can’t get too excited about moving from playing absurdly horrible to maybe okay. As I said, I’ll reevaluate my excitement level after the Indiana game.
Best game zak has played in a while imo.
I enjoy seeing improvement.
I am a staunch supporter of Beilein, love these kids, think this is a rather unique bunch that is starting to figure it out. I try to just enjoy the games and not get peevish unless they are getting killed, which tends to be rare. I LIKE that they piece the thing together with unheralded kids, kids with unique talents–slow to emerge–without superstars. But I’m not getting my hopes up too much for a tourney berth; the margin of error still seems fairly small. Today was an absolute must-win game, but they’re all going to be looking like that down the stretch here.
One pretty amazing thing–if you look over the team’s record the last few years, they very rarely lose two in a row. That’s testimony to a lot of good thinking and continual adjustment by Beilein, IMO.
We lost 2 in a row just the other day (Maryland/Illinois), and four different times last season.
The team definitely appears to have found something defensively, though. Given how quickly it’s happened—basically overnight between the Nebraska and Wisconsin games—it seems largely about just playing harder.
I think we all need to be concerned that JB doesn’t seem to have a feel for when the guys need a blow. Last night I would have had no problem with 3 - 4 minutes left putting X, Ibi or Teske in for a few (not all at the same time and not just with X on a weird o/d rotation like he did) and then using moreof those TO’s if they made a mistake to stem the bleeding and get more rest for everyone.
Gotta use what the game gives you and not just a token one at 2:30 and put X in for defensive. Thought X would have been very helpful in bringing the ball up and running out the clock. Not like we were aggressively running the offense.
I don’t think Beilein playing his best players in the final few minutes of a game that was still within striking distance is concerning at all.
It looks like a team is playing harder when they are playing instinctively. Wilson and Wagner are first year starters, the entire team is in their first season under Donlon. Some portion of the improvement has to be attributed to experience and improving comfort level.
Seems like an overstatement. But I agree that, for last game specifically, Walton and Wilson looked absolutely gassed. And we were clearly just looking to kill 30 seconds and then chuck of a shot, so I think X could’ve been out there around the 7 minute mark. Though, when the lead was around 12, with a few minutes remaining, I get why Walton had to stay in.
Illinois has played extremely poor on the road this year in the Big Ten
Lost to Maryland by 25
Lost to Indiana by 16
Lost to Purdue by 23
Michigan was improved in certain areas but this type of performance for Illinois on the road is a clear trend
Predictions for the big stretch of upcoming games?
vs Indiana
at MSU
vs OSU
vs MSU
at Indiana
vs Wisconsin
I’m going 4-2, with wins in the first 4 and losses @indiana and home to Wisconsin. Optimistic I know, but I think we take care of business in the home games besides Wisconsin (OG’s injury certainly helps), and I think we have the advantage @MSU because those freshmen won’t come out with the same intensity needed in a big rivalry game as some of our upperclassmen.
In all fairness, I don’t think MSU will ever have an issue with intensity playing against Michigan under Tom Izzo. If anything, that is a huge concern on our end in my opinion.
