Recruiting Notes

Makes sense to me.

Sorry man, canā€™t give away too much and Iā€™m trying to be respectful if you catch my drift. Just want to prepare folks for it in the event it happens.

Gotcha. I hope the staff is at least taking note of Elliottā€™s play. We could certainly do a lot worse if we had to add someone this spring.

Has UM been involved/showing interest in Elliott at all? There is definitely room for him even if we land Bamba there are a few transfers that will certainly happen.

Not since the summer at all. Heā€™s too small for the staffā€™s liking at this point, which seems a bit weird in my opinion. I think we will come to regret passing on Greg, I really think heā€™s going to be a nice college player. George Hill is the perfect comparison.

Heā€™s a good recruiter. Why is that a surprise?

Because none of his highly regarded wing recruits have stuck in the NBA, so you would think anyone with NBA aspirations would know that. I mean, Zak Irvinā€™s development is par for the course with Matta.

If no Bamba, save it for '18.

Aside from Donnal, who do you think is transferring? I donā€™t see any likely candidates at this point.

You gotta be kidding me.

I wish I was. Trust me, out of any 5star in the class of 2019, Weems is both the most realistic and the most pressing need.

In good news though I will say this - everyone thinks 5star 2019 Jordan Mitchell is a lock to OSUā€¦heā€™s really high on Michigan despite what others may claim.

I like Mitchell over Weems based on what I have seen at least. He seems far more athletic in the few clips I have watched and he is a dog on defense as well.

No doubt about it, Mitchell is definitely more athletic than Weems. Canā€™t say that I agree on dog/defense, Weems is a man on the court, while Mitchell is still a boy. Mitchell is a 5star athlete, while Weems has much more skill and motor.

I found a little video of Mitchell playing a little one on one drill with a Kentucky signee, he looked great on the defensive side of the ball. Have you seen it?

Havenā€™t seen that. I watched Jordan play extensively last year on the EYBL circuit with King James (now obsolete). Iā€™ve spoken with Jordan a good deal recently, and heā€™s going to stay with Quincy Simpson (Xavierā€™s dad) and move to the Under Armour Circuit and C2K Elite.

I watched about 4.5 minutes of that clip above. My first thought is that neither guy was really giving much effort. Second, of those 4.5 minutes, Mitchell was only placed in a position where he had to move his feet 4 times where the result was clearā€¦and of those 4 times he was blown by twice and Fox was able to get separation on another occasion.

Just donā€™t think we can extract much from a one on one clip where neither guy is going 100%, and a one on one setting. Defenders can be pretty good in isolation but absolutely terrible in rotations, chasing screens, boxing out, etc.

Reaction time means so much, what do you do when the ball is in the air or the ballhandler from the other team gets separation on your teammate. Michigan is absolutely awful at both of those scenarios. Yesterday in the first half, Wagner would literally stand there and watch as both of those things occurred repeatedly.

You analyze far more clips like this than I that is for sure. But I do come away with the fact that Fox is currently projected as a lottery pick and Mitchell did not seem in awe of him and hung in there pretty well.

Donā€™t get me wrong, I would LOVE to have Jordan Mitchell, his upside is insane. Heā€™s a really great kid as well. Simply cannot teach the type of athleticism he has.
