On Seth Towns

Just spoke to him after his Michigan visit (which he said was his eighth or ninth trip to Ann Arbor). The visit was the full academic unofficial that is generally the prerequisite to a scholarship offer.

We’ll have a full update on the site soon, but John Beilein has never been shy to prioritize his guys and get them early (reminds me a bit of Mark Donnal/Austin Hatch a few years back. Most sites haven’t ranked past 50-60 range yet for the '16 class and I think Towns could be trending toward a top-100ish prospect, especially after a big weekend at Spiece in front of a handful of national scouts.

How do these guys project in Beilein’s system? (position)

Towns: 3 or 4?
Moyer: 4 or 5?
Leaf: 4 or 5?

Just wondering…

I definitely see Towns in that 3/4 combo niche. He’s got the shot obviously, but he also has a really great handle. Kameron Chatman is another guy pushing 6-8 that’ll play that four spot with a great handle. Those guys that can play multiple positions with size are an extreme luxury.

Agree with Dylan that Towns looks like a 3/4 tweener

Leaf definitely looks like a 4. He’s built a lot more like DJ Wilson than JMo.

Actually haven’t watched anything on Moyer yet.

What do you think on a decision Dylan? By summers end? Longer? He knows he’s a priority…

Hey Dylan, can you elaborate a bit more on Towns’s Speice outing? I know you guys couldn’t catch him, but what were his stats?

Don’t have stats, but they blew out three teams in pool play by well over 20 points and then took a close loss in the first game of bracket play.

He was adamant that he didn’t have a decision date in mind, but he was also quite clear that Michigan was at the top of his list. Probably still some other variables to be worked out IMO.

Based off of your piece on the front page, it sounded like Towns might jump at the opportunity to play for OSU. I just hope that he doesn’t end up verbally committing to us and then abandon ship if OSU comes knocking…especially if it happens right around the corner from the signing period. He seems like a pretty good kid, but who wouldn’t jump at a chance to play for your childhood team?
