A bit hard to say about Zak, because you can’t let it fly like he did last year and not be confident, but he looked more confident about his game to me. I like the rebound and push takes he had, bodes well for the upcoming season.
I'll tell you what, if Ricky stays for Camp Sanderson next year and adds 4-5 inches to his vertical, he would be an absolute monster. Would essentially be a much more skilled version of Kaleb T from UA. Only 1 game, but I think I may have underestimated Big RickYou mentioned Chatman’s physical improvement… Doyle has made a massive leap too. We didn’t see as much footage of him, but people forget that he was on campus all summer working out with Jon Sanderson. He’s made a huge leap in his body. He mentioned before that he’s down to 12% body fat from 18% in the spring. It shows.
He looked like he got up and down the floor better than the HS footage I saw.
Two things I liked about Doyle while watching the full tape:
-
was how Big Rick tracked the opponent’s ball handler like he was pissed or something. He didn’t rotate well a few times but I like the defensive mentality. With his big frame and long arms, he can be an intimidating defender for some guards.
-
on the PnR…when he rolls, he’s a huge target. It’s going to take more effort for the dropping weakside defender to stop him which could open up a lot of skip 3’s
Hey guys… Stick around tonight. Got a little surprise from Italy coming up
Im lusting for film, please say it’s true
Yea RD looked better in the film than his stats might suggest. The player he defended was pulling him out of the post…probably why he had few rebounding opportunities.
Michigan up 22-11 … Was a bit closer early on.

WHOA, a nifty stop and go from MAAR leads to a floating lay-in, U-M 22-11 #ForzaBlu
Sounds like Donnal is having foul trouble, but Doyle is grabbing some boards.
Halftime UM 45 Vicenza 24. MAAR’s first touch apparently resulted in free throws at the line. Seems to have been a trend in the first half.

U-M runs the clock down and @CarisLeVert takes care of business with the free throw line jumper. Half U-M 45-24. #ForzaBlu
Back-and-forth with game action. Hey MAAR gets the ball and drives to the hoop. Oh and fouled again. 1-for-2, U-M leads 43-24
And after two more Vicenza missed free throws, @zirvin21 knocks down another triple. Oh, the net didn’t even move.
@umichbball: Hey, MAAR just drove and was fouled. Balls drops, so does the FT. U-M is up 72-45. #ForzaBlu
@umichbball: And a quote from @JohnBeilein , that was a Philadelphia basket. #true #ForzaBlu
Just stop and enjoy the film.
@umichbball: Guess what … MAAR drives and is fouled. Is this a repeat tweet. #ForzaBlu
MAAR is relentless taking the ball to the basket
MAAR is going to surprise a lot of people in a few years. Thanks for update gentleman(women too?), greatly appreciated
@umichbball now
We said he was playing well. How about with 7 minutes left, @rickybdoyle has 15 points, 14 rebounds. #ForzaBlu
Some photos from the first game.
Doyle looks like a load. He’s a BIG boy. Looks like he could handle the physical play inside and set some hard screens.
There isn’t really a stat for this but I’m envisioning him posting hard could open up more attacking opportunities. Defending post players might have a harder time getting around him and into help-side position or a good blocking position.
Highlights of Michigan’s win from the 2nd and 4th quarters.
P.S.: MattD/MChem… drop this argument… Take it offline or on Twitter or something.

Seems that it won’t take long for Doyle to surpass Donnal
MAAR just threw down a dunk that got the crowd on its feet. Cannot wait to see the box score for this. Sounds like LeVert, MAAR, Doyle, and Irvin in double figures at least.
Doyle in conjunction with 14rebs is something I’d like to hear often. Sounds like he had one hell of a game
