Feel like talent wise it’s close. Maybe not at the top but they have much more depth and all their guys are top 100. And they’re coached much much better.
Really want to know what they’re doing on free throw defense.
I’m sure @umhoops will shed more light on this in the coming days, but: maybe the most silver-lining take of today is it came from players not making plays. Juwan coached a hell of a tournament, and he’s proven he’s going to bring in talent.
It speaks to Juwan’s talent that we were already in a positions to feel entitled to a Final 4 — and that, barring the statistical anomaly that just befell us, Michigan deserved.
Maybe he never recaptures this special sauce of talent and experience, but I am so glad to know the program is in Juwan’s hands.
Yeah, I just think the top of LSU can truly beat you on their own on a good night. I honestly think with everything that went wrong, we should have found a way to beat this UCLA team that was overmatched in crucial ways. None of it matters now, though. The LSU game I realized early we could definitely lose. 5 minutes into this one I thought it would be absurd to lose to this UCLA team. I still pretty much do. I am sad.
This is what I was hoping Franz would show more this year. He did in spurts but not on command. People here were saying earlier in the tourney that he should just focus on being facilitator and picking his spots but to me, post-Livers we needed someone who could iso-ball as you described. Out of anyone on the team Franz seemed most equipped to do that.
I like Juwan and think he has a bright future but I still believe in an ideal situation he wants a roster that has 9-10 guys that can get run, do the right things and play to his vision. He obviously hasn’t had that thus far in his 2 years but having Davis get some big minutes tonight, Johns had a good 1st half. I believe from his NBA experience he wants maybe 9 guys to be able to contribute. Maybe that happens next year with Williams/Zeb getting a full spring/summer in the gym and maybe Eli returning and a big freshman class.
I swear to God, if he wasn’t Austin Davis, you should have run the tie the score possession to him. I don’t think they could stop him
Has anyone called out the real reason we lost tonight yet? We didn’t get a reverse jinx from @BigBoutros did we? Unfortunately on nights like tonight, you need every man to step up.
Seriously! Where the F was he? Where were you @BigBoutros?
I had this exact thought in the second half. What the heck, man???
Its mind blowing that UCLAs last 5 opponents have been near 50% at the free throw line. That is unbelievable luck
Hep Cronin is a warlock
Heck of a season boys, wish the magic could have lasted just one more weekend! I’ll be counting down the days till the season tips next year!!! Its great to be a Michigan Wolverine…just remember that while the rest of the Big Ten, Duke, Kentucky, Kansa and UNC (the blue bloods) were sitting on their couches we were still playing!
Also a random side note and I hope that somehow we as fans are able to do this in the coming weeks but I want to take a second to share my gratitude to the coaches, support staff and the players for all the sacrifices they made just to go through this crazy heck season from the Covid stand point…a year ago we were all left with nothing and thanks to their hard work and sacrifices we were able to claim a big ten title and our 4th trip to the Sweet 16 in just as many tries and if you ask me thats a heck of a year!
Turnovers (24%) and free throws (55%)
Dylan said something along the lines of “whoever makes shots wins games”. We didn’t. He was right. As always.
This offensive board into instant rushed flip shot is going to haunt me. Easy to say now from my couch, but it really looks like Eli could have collected himself and power dribbled toward the rim instead of a crazy flip while fading away. He ended up a step inside the three point line after the shot.
Also two timeouts…10 seconds left…just re-set…
Michigan is a blue blood. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
a gather and a pump fake here and Eli’s going to the line to take the lead.
Or have Franz cut hard to the basket with a pass from Eli would’ve yield a decent look the 2nd time around. Brutal but it happened at the heat of the moment so hard to blame Eli for it
Killing me. So many moments, but yeah, that one guts me.
I spent so much of the first half asking myself why Franz wasn’t guarding Juzang. Juwan is such a great coach but I don’t understand why he waited until the end of the game to put one of the best defensive players in the country on the one guy who was killing us.
