NCAA 2021: Michigan vs. UCLA Open Thread

Finally an opposing coach was smart enough to not base their entire defense on doubling Dickinson. Scoring in the post is hard. Dickinson is good but he’s not some unstoppable force down there. Make him score one on one consistently. He couldn’t and we kept throwing it down to him time and again.

We had our chances down the stretch and missed all of them. I do think we lacked a go to guy. It didn’t matter most of the year but I don’t know that there was one guy I felt good about saying go get a bucket down the stretch.

Thats fair! Gonna need a few days to move on from this one.

He’s not that kind of lottery pick. Just saying “he’s a lottery pick” is pointless when he’s lottery pick as a future defensive wing with some secondary play making abilities. He’s not a Jalen Suggs. Franz did play bad in all our losses, but if anything that speaks to how good he is.

I’ll be joining you with this. Gonna step away for a few days and never look back at this game again. I’ll move onto the offseason stuff and start thinking about next year soon. Great season, extremely disappointing end. Thanks for a great season/career, seniors.

It is a small sample, that’s the definition. I understand there’s a strong mental side but that’s also something that we quite literally can not know. So I hate chalking up every bad performance to “not being locked in” or whatever. Chalking it up to SSS variance is probably equally annoying but I just like to say sometimes people have bad games because they are human and not robots like you said

Right? This has been a period of fantastic sustained success for Michigan. If it weren’t for the 800-lb gorilla — 0-2 on Monday night — we’d be talking about this as the best period of sustained success in Michigan basketball history. (And Michigan basketball history is very good, outside of the Ellerbe / Amaker era).

There are quite a few teams in the country who would happily trade with Michigan. 0-2 on Monday night is a lot better than 0-0.

It’s not been a one game thing from franz, offense has been all over the place all season. He needs to go but he’s a huge boom or bust prospect imo.

I hear you. I have a wife and 3 kids and my emotional reaction to sports games has gone down significantly over the past 5 years or so. But man this one crushed me. I’m at a really difficult spot at work and might lose my job, a loved one is getting a lump tested for cancer and a couple other bad things are going on. I know better than to let sports dictate my emotions this badly but I couldn’t help myself tonight. I really needed this one, sad as it is to say

I don’t know, it feels like just yesterday we were just saying that about 2014 with McGary

And I still look back on that season with 100% fondness.

Typically you’re right on this- but they really needed his offense in those games-
Especially without Livers and he turned in total duds

Especially because you can’t disprove it.

“They were missing a metal edge. Prove I’m wrong.”

{crickets}

Not kicking him out. I want him to come back voluntarily for a sweet cocktail of revenge and fun.

Keep putting ourselves in a position to play on monday nights and it will happen.

The biggest issue with Dickinson is he has basically one move which limit the post option for him. UCLA was smart to make him work hard for it. If he has post moves like Davis, we would see more doubles IMO.

Ya I agree, I just was saying that in terms of team success it’s pretty much the same

I’m very sorry to hear that. I truly hope for the best possible outcomes for you!

I expect both to return

As a boom or bust prospect.

I hear you, but McGary is no Livers. McGary took himself out due to his predilection for weed.
