NCAA 2021: Michigan vs. LSU Open Thread

I gotta admit I got way too negative at the start of the game. I gotta be better

Beyond pumped. Also full of admiration considering what effort that took. A lesser group missing its senior star would have folded, and probably several times during that contest.

9 I believe

BTW, Juwan Howard remains undefeated as a coach in the NCAAs.

The last Michigan coach to reach the NCAAs with a 0-0 lifetime NCAA record?

Pretty sure he won the darned thing.

I’m saying 9.

Bring on FSU. At least we know they don’t foul in the last minute!

You know Mike was shaky at the end but he WAS under relentless pressure all night! I love the kid. You bet we’re going to stand behind him, and beside him. Heck I’m 74 years old and I’ll throw him up on my shoulders and carry him if he wants! SO proud of the kids ALL of them, and the coaches!

Will @umhoops finally say we have “life” and an identity since the livers injury in his recap? I’m so excited to read it

I remember that. Saw that team play several times at Crisler that year! :blue_heart:

Honestly, I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for Leonard Hamilton for that. The kid obviously messed up, but Hamilton took responsibility, saying he called him off. Absolute class; the kid must have been humiliated when he realized what he did.

In all honestly for a good chunk of the first half I thought “This doesn’t feel like our night.”

But it never got away from us - and somehow we led at half!

My trick is just to yell impotently at nobody instead of putting my negativity in here

They’re massive, which isn’t great. Shortest player is 6’4, starting PG is 6’9. Barely shoot any 3’s (240th in the country) but great at making them (12th nationally). Similar to LSU in that they crash the glass hard and try to block everything, so they give up a bunch of ORebs and foul a lot. Go really deep and have a 7’1 Center followed by like 4/5 6’8/6’9 guys.

Probably a less combustible matchup than LSU in that they won’t rain fire on well defended shots, but they actually play defense. Definitely win-able, but could also get overwhelmed by their size on the perimeter and lose.

My biggest concern was 3 point shooting. These guys shoot 40% on 3’s tonight. When they do that they can play with anyone.

Proud of the fight in the guys tonight. Played really inspired ball at times and did what they needed to do when they had to do it. Onward to free shoes.

Johns quietly had a great game. Key steal. Couple tipped rebounds that won’t show up in the box score. Shut Watford down after he gave Franz all he could handle.

I think we broke the record for the most posts (1.2k) in a game thread.
