Hunters agent: Delete that footage

In all seriousness, they should have cut that video 10 seconds earlier lol

Holmgren still needs ankle weights to keep from blowing away in a stiff breeze. I’ve seen skeletons in 8th grade biology classrooms that aren’t as skinny as Chet.

This makes me think that a 15/70 3 point shooting year is coming up, ha.

Imo, Hunter would be better served focusing on his right hand and 10-15 ft jumper over his 3 point shot. And I don’t think it would hurt his draft stock if followed that prioritization either.

He shot 3s in HS. I don’t really think it’s that big of a reach for him to develop that considering. If he’s gonna work on a jumper it may as well be a 3

I have pretttttty close to 0 interest in Hunter shooting 15 footers and I don’t think the NBA has much either

The point I’m making is that I have serious doubts that he’ll be able to become a good enough 3 point shooter in the off-season to make it an efficient shot for us. He has other weaknesses that he could work on with a more realistic chance of improving significantly.

As someone stated, 5/12 on catch and shoot 3s in practice doesn’t exactly instill confidence. Hell, I’ve never played basketball competitively beyond pick up games at the gym and can shoot at a 33% clip when unguarded.

I agree on rather seeing Hunter work on the right hand. He’s been pretty good at the elbow jumper and I think people underrate the value of them as a change up. I’d rather him shoot and make a handful of open ten footers than bricking threes that take him away from the paint where he sees the court well as a passer.

I guess my argument is that working on his right hand and a 3 point shot are not exclusive of each other, and working on a 3 point shot is something he’s already done at points in his life, and he already has a good FT stroke so he’s ready to work on it. If it’s not good enough then that’s fine but there’s no downside to working on it.

Working on your jump shot doesn’t mean that you aren’t working on your right hand.

Oh I’m sure he’s working on both. Just backing up Burke’s point about the midrange jumpers that was getting poo-pooed. Based on how I think he’ll shoot this season, the ten footer will probably be a more efficient shot for him.

Of note, he has to shoot 45% on 12-footers for them to be as efficient as a 30% 3-point shot, before even getting into additional spacing.

Refine the post moves and add some counters, but if he’s working on jumpers it definitely makes sense to work on his 3-point shot.

I’ve been waiting all morning for Dylan to come in with the spacing comment. From Dylan I’ve learned that taking threes is nearly as important as making them for the rest of the team. Obviously, you have to make some, but if Hunter is dragging the opposing 5 out near the 3-pt line, Jones is looking at a much more accessible paint.

If you had serious doubts before the clip then I think that’s fair. But that clip barely adds to what we already know about Hunter as a shooter. What he did in HS, the jumpers he shot in college, and his FT% are much much more telling.

I don’t think it’s a slam dunk he gets there, btw. I just think it’s obviously the most valuable thing he could add to his game as far as both the team and his personal development is concerned.

This will be a good over/under for the season, I’m bearish on the three point shooting.

Last thing I’ll say on the topic: I agree in principle with what you’re saying, but we didn’t witness this in an open gym setting when players can go hot or cold depending on how warmed up they are. This was essentially a highlight video lol, you would’ve expected some more marksmanship otherwise why post the video. There’s videos of Dwight Howard making numerous 3s in a row in practice, but he never takes them in the game.

I don’t think anyone is arguing it was an impressive video. Personally, I think it’s hilarious that they posted a video of Hunter missing a bunch of threes, especially given how awkward his form looks in them.

But, I also don’t think anyone should really think anything of it. It is clearly after practice and it means next to nothing as far as how well he’ll shoot next year.
